We had the good fortune of connecting with Timothy Seisser and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Timothy, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I was looking for another job, in addition to being a full time working musician, that would allow me to make my own schedule and be my own boss. Having flexible hours was essential, as I didn’t want to quit being a musician, I just wanted to augment it. I was also looking to bring in more money without having to build an entirely new clientele. So already knowing a bunch of professional musicians who would need instrument repair and would also be in the market for new instruments, seemed like it checked that box. I also take some reassurance in knowing I will never have to buy another bass guitar for myself, as now I just make what I need.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
In addition to performing all over the world with various talented individuals, I also build hand crafted bass guitars for some really great bassists. The path to becoming a working musician is extremely difficult and requires a ton of different skill sets. That definitely made things easier when I decided to start my own instrument building and repair business. Time management is my jam these days. Trying to structure my day to day to allow for days where I focus on music, days where I focus on Luthiery and days when I do a bit of both, is one of the biggest challenges I face these days.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If you’re in Chicago, you must eat! I would start by getting out to some of the local spots for affordable and amazing cuisine. Then of course, you have to see music. There’s no shortage of world class talent here. I’m also a big fan of beer, so a trip to a couple breweries would be in order.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First off, my wife for sticking with me through the good and bad times of being married to a man working 2 full time jobs and constantly traveling. Also, my parents for teaching me so much about working hard and being professional always. And my mentor Carl Pedigo, who taught me how to make an instrument feel amazing.
