We had the good fortune of connecting with Noah Cousineau and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Noah, why did you pursue a creative career?
I decided to go into a career as a graphic designer and artist because I knew I had to do something creative with my work. My background was in aerospace engineering, a field that is interesting but can become stale with tedious calculations and a lack of creativity. I think other creatives can relate to the feeling of being in a job where there is no creativity. It can be often difficult if not depressing to go on each day. A creative career was something I had to take on to give me purpose and keep me energized.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I love to study the intersection between fine art and graphic design. Due to graphic design’s connection to the world of business, I find myself creating pieces that speak about consumerism, brands, and American business. While I’m certainly not the first artist to look at this intersection, I analyze my work with humor and look at various different media to convey the strongest message. One of the biggest challenges was finding my voice as a creative and finding an audience. One of the biggest achievements for me has been my upcoming show Forced Perspective: An Exhibit on Brand. This show contains work that analyzes branding and discusses how branding forces us to perceive the world in a particular way. The show will be on display from March 28th to the 30th in The Trophy Room LA.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
You’re better off asking someone else, I honestly spend a lot of time at home. I live in the Silver Lake area and always love visiting 4100 and The Black Cat. To be honest, one of the most fun days I’ve ever had in Los Angeles was going to Madame Tussauds in Hollywood. Even though this may be the biggest tourist trap, that’s part of the appeal. Going with a friend and not taking it seriously at all is an insane amount of fun.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Without a doubt, I want to give a shoutout to ArtCenter College of Design. The teachers that I encountered at ArtCenter have given me a plethora of information on not only graphic design, but how to be a professional. Without ArtCenter, I would be only a fraction of the designer I am today.
