We had the good fortune of connecting with Wreck The System and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Wreck The, why did you pursue a creative career?
Cam: I always felt attracted to the malleability of the creative arts, whether it’s expressing myself on stage as a rapper, in the studio as a producer, or being able to breathe life into different characters and tell their stories as an actor. the drive really began when I found out I could actually make a living doing these things I genuinely love doing. Being able to meet and get inspired by other peers is just icing on that cake.

LadyJ: it was literally my calling, I knew I wanted to do this since I was 8 years old. And the inspiration from watching the movie 8 mile sparked it ten fold, never stopped sense.

Osiris Green: Nothing else in life made me feel happier than creating. Also successful artist live life with a different freedom than any other career.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Cam: So I started rapping when I was middle school, and dived into beatmaking in my college days. It was around then that I linked up with J, who was pursuing her own path as an indie rapper and studio engineer. We started making records together, produced some of my first projects and she helped provide an outlet for recording, as well as catching the attention of multiple venues and collaborators.

LadyJ : Between the common thing heard on finding my own sound I’ve picked a brand identity, voice and blending makes me very unique amongst the rest cause it’s my own.

Osiris Green: It was never easy lol. I overcame by honestly holding myself responsible for my own success and failures, so if I win or lose its all on me. This helps me to give my very best. The biggest lesson is, create the art you want and your people will find you there is no cookie cutter formula to success. I want the world to know that creativity is our super power, and nobody can create what we create, you can only get this type of rebellious, original, experimental art from us.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Cam: If you come through DC, some of my favorite spots include the Smithsonian, with a ton of dope museums, and Chinatown, with a lot of great local eateries around.

LadyJ: Honestly I’d bring them right around Laurel. Main Street specifically, there’s trials? Great stores, PLENTY to eat, and more. I’d take them to a zip lining place around there too. It’s simple, fun and never super crowded

Osiris Green: National Harbor, trying different dispensaries in the area, and hitting some of the Smithsonian’s in DC

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Cam: Of course, a big shout out goes to Ashley Mika and her budding brand, Nerdy Bebop. We always appreciate the continued, consistent support from her throughout the years and definitely look forward to her cultivating a healthy and active ecosystem for geeks of color everywhere.

LadyJ: Eminem and Linkin Park

Osiris Green: Shout to to my mentor and producer JudahOnTheBeats. he helped me develop as a producer and engineer before I met wreck.
