We had the good fortune of connecting with Kathryn Perlin and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kathryn, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
My Work life balance is definitely off kilter these days. As the Pandemic rages on I find myself letting go a lot more than I ever thought possible. Having all four Children at home has forced me to see our day to day lives in a different perspective. My work has definitely been pushed to the back burner as we navigate this new world and our new roles. It’s really hard not being able to please everyone, I used to get flustered when the shelves in my store weren’t perfect, or when we didn’t have something a customer needed. These days I’m just happy to still be open limited hours and I appreciate what we do have. I know someday we will all get back to our pre-covid selves but I hope to take with me the lessons I’ve learned about balance and how maybe it’s ok the not do it all.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Sap+Honey is a children’s boutique that specializes in bringing the magic of childhood to life. We source clothing and toys that are high quality, earth friendly and can be passed down for generations. I pride myself in being apart of my neighborhood. I grew up in Claremont California and I wanted to bring the same village like atmosphere to my customers while still being in a large city like los angles. When I opened Sap+Honey everything seemed to fit into place, I traveled to New York and Florence twice a year to shop for the store. Everyday was exciting, getting ready for new seasons and holidays made it seem less like work and more like this fun stuff I have to do. I definitely had ups and downs but for the most part having my own business was the right choice for me. I guess it’s hard to know where we go from here. In March 2020 as the world closed and my neighborhood boarded up its doors, We waited. Week by week we were told just two more weeks but we are still waiting. I don’t expect for things to magically go back to the way they were, nor do I necessarily want them to. I know this Pandemic has been absolutely devastating but I do think we have learned to adapt, to put the needs of our families first and given ourselves a break. I can’t tell you what the future holds for Sap+Honey but I am thankful for each day and every customer that has supported us in this unpredictable time.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to thank my Mom and My Husband Jacob for always believing in me and encouraging me to pursue my passions. I could have no better cheerleaders!
