We had the good fortune of connecting with Mike Miller and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mike, let’s start by talking about what inspires you?
We get a lot of inspiration from the modern world and current events. Everything has turned into a comedy show from our perspective so we kinda ride that wave creatively. Musically, we both come from punk and metal backgrounds and we try to create music that pays tribute to the influences we both have been inspired by over the years.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
When we came up with the concept for the band we wanted to incorporate some of the things we respect and genuinely enjoy listening to and seeing live. Odd-time signatures were something we both wanted to explore in greater depth than either of us had been able to in previous bands. Alot of syncopation and interplay between the drums and guitar create the base for any lyrical themes we feel called to write about. Having only 2 instruments really made us have to think about pushing our abilities and creativity to levels that truly challenge us as musicians but always prioritizing catchy riffs and heavy grooves. During live performances we try to push tempos and put out as much energy as we possibly can. We love our version of controlled chaos that we’ve crafted so far.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Mike: I’m a big craft beer guy. So any city I’m in I always try to find some quality local spots to try. In the LA/OC area I’d recommend Highland Park Brewing, Green Cheek Brewing, RIIP Beer Co. ISM Brewing, and Beachwood Brewing. Also a big fan of live music and comedy. So the Comedy Store is always a great hang, and of course any of the countless music venues around town are always running great shows. The Mint, The Teragram Ballroom, The Palladium, The Greek, The Wiltern, etc.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
We owe alot to various teachers and mentors over the years. We both come from musically inclined families and have always had their support thankfully. So it all starts with that as a solid foundation to build on. Some of our favorite local venues we have been lucky enough to work over the past couple years have helped us tremendously (The Wayfarer, Alex’s Bar, Supply & Demand, The Dollhut to name a few).
