We had the good fortune of connecting with Rodrigo Tolentino and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rodrigo, what’s your definition for success?
I perceive success as crafting an individual you deeply admire and introducing them to the world. Witnessing others accomplish their aspirations is truly inspiring and has a ripple effect. As a musician, I understand that patience is crucial as we await significant milestones. By shaping the person we admire, we continuously grow in our professional journey. The insights we gain from our daily endeavors often resonate across various aspects of our lives.

Additionally, I embrace the philosophy that “success is subtractive.” It’s essential for individuals to monitor their time meticulously to discern what needs to be eliminated to pave the way for success. Often, when discussing aspirations or changes with peers or friends, there’s a prevailing notion that one must incorporate new habits like a morning routine or reading. However, more often than not, the breakthrough or desired change emerges from shedding non-essential activities such as excessive TV watching or frequenting happy hours.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art as a DJ and music producer is characterized by a unique blend of creativity, innovation, and a deep appreciation for diverse musical influences. What sets me apart from others in the industry is my distinctive approach to mixing and remixing popular songs. I love to surprise and captivate my audience by taking them on a nostalgic journey with cleverly chopped vocal samples or remixes of beloved classics, such as a Taylor Swift Tech House Remix. The element of surprise and the ability to evoke emotions through music is what I’m most proud of and excited about in my work.

My journey to where I am today professionally has been a challenging yet rewarding odyssey. It was not easy, filled with obstacles, rejections, and moments of self-doubt. However, these challenges have been important in shaping me as an artist and I do not regret anything from my journey.

One of the most profound lessons I’ve learned along the way is the importance of embracing failure as a stepping stone to success and viewing setbacks as opportunities for growth and learning. Each challenge faced, each obstacle overcome has equipped me with valuable insights, resilience, and a deeper understanding of myself, my art, and my surroundings.

What I want the world to know about me and my brand is that I am passionate about creating music that transcends boundaries, sparks conversations, and touches hearts. I aspire to inspire, to uplift, and to connect with audiences through the universal language of 4 on the floor (house music).

I hope to inspire others to embrace their unique talents, pursue their passions with courage and conviction, and make a meaningful impact in their chosen field.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Wow, it’s been some time since I’ve had the chance to play tour guide in San Diego, but I’ve recently discovered some new spots worth exploring! Here’s how I’d plan our day:

We’d kick things off with a workout session at the 24 Hour Fitness in Carmel Mountain to get energized for the day.
After working up an appetite, we’d grab a bite at a local favorite like Chipotle or Cava for a quick and satisfying lunch.
Next, we’d take a scenic drive down to La Jolla to enjoy some drinks while soaking in the stunning views. Of course, we’d opt for the longer route to make the most of our engaging conversations along the way!

Later in the evening, chances are, one of our friends might have a table reserved at popular spots like Nova SD in downtown or Park & Rec in North Park.
And no trip to San Diego would be complete without indulging in some authentic Mexican food! We’d have a tough choice between Tacos El Gordo, Vallarta’s, or Super Sergio’s to satisfy our cravings before calling it a day.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to extend a heartfelt shoutout to Andy Frisella, who has served as an exemplary figure not only to me but also to millions of musicians, entrepreneurs, and individuals striving for personal growth. Through his company, 1st Phorm, Andy has revolutionized the approach to personal development and weight management, positively impacting my life and that of countless others. The transformative strategies and insights offered by 1st Phorm have been instrumental in helping me achieve my fitness goals and cultivate a balanced lifestyle.

Moreover, Andy’s podcast has been a constant companion for me over the years, with episodes often resonating so deeply that they seem to address my questions and concerns before I even articulate them. His candid discussions on personal development, coupled with insightful reflections on current events, have not only enriched my understanding but also served as fantastic conversation starters for someone naturally introverted like myself.

In addition to Andy, I would like to dedicate this shoutout to my mentors, Justin and Zack from Cosmic Academy. Their unwavering support, guidance, and belief in my potential have been pivotal in shaping my artistic journey and professional growth. Their mentorship has provided me with invaluable knowledge, encouragement, and inspiration, empowering me to overcome challenges and strive for excellence.

Furthermore, my gratitude extends to my family and friends who have stood by me, offering love, encouragement, and understanding throughout the highs and lows of my journey. Their unwavering belief in me has been a source of strength and inspiration.
