Meet Charlie Greene | Co-Founder & CEO of Remento

We had the good fortune of connecting with Charlie Greene and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Charlie, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
When my mom was diagnosed with cancer a few years ago, it became clear that she’d likely never get to meet her grandchildren. I remember feeling so distraught thinking that those kids would never have the chance to hear her voice and learn about the moments that made her the person she became. So we decided to change that.

We decided to record what has academically and traditionally been called an oral history interview of her life. We covered the big moments, and the small moments too. And the experience was entirely different than I expected for two reasons.

First, I learned more about my mom than I ever could have imagined. Simple prompts like “how’d you get to school as a child” and questions about photos of her childhood led to stories I had never heard, purely because I had never made the time to ask.

Second, I was blown away by how excited her friends and family was to see this recorded content – and how excited they were to respond with their own stories, reflections, photos, and more.

That experience – of creating space to reminisce today in an effort to preserve for tomorrow – changed my life and was the inspiration for what we’ve built with Remento; a product designed to make it easier than ever before to collect and preserve precious family memories and stories.

What should our readers know about your business?
Remento makes the collection of every family’s most precious memories easy and fun for all involved. Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My wife and I live in Venice and when friends visit, we spend our time on the west side. On a Friday night, we’re at Firestone Walker Brewery in Venice – one of the first breweries I’ve been to with actually great food!

On Saturday morning, we’re taking our dog Rosie for a walk on the beach and then probably heading to Great White for brunch. In the afternoon we’re either cruising Abbott Kinney or heading over to the Marina. That evening we’re probably headed out for dinner – Cobi’s is one of our new favorite spots.

On Sunday we’re starting the day at the Farmer’s Market and then coming home to make a big lunch with our haul.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to shoutout my wife, Lily, who is my forever rock and support system. The startup journey is an incredible one and one that fills me up and wears me down in equal parts. Lily brings balance to my life and makes me a better founder, manager, brother, son, and partner.
