We had the good fortune of connecting with Lupita Castillejos and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lupita, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Fragment the historical stigma of being only seen as a violated border, Baja California and its people have done unstoppable work to obtain recognition and in this last decade fruits have been harvested that fill us with pride, now we are a border port with a gastronomy and wine awarded at a national and international level, when creating Red Wine Tour Baja our commitment is to receive and welcome all our travelers from the USA and the rest of the world, to visit our region and enjoy the Mexican Mediterranean, where the safety and quality of all our hosts are guaranteed.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I am passionate about travel and wine, after working for almost 10 years in Marketing, I made the best life decision to dedicate myself to what I am passionate about, to what fills my life every day, to design private and personalized travel experiences. on the Valle de Guadalupe wine route in Baja California; From this passion Red Wine Tour Baja was born, we are a concierge service agency, which we design each trip to the taste and lifestyle of each of our clients, it was not an easy path to get to where we are today, since the issue The border is an issue that is still full of stigma and mistrust, and it was an enormous and abysmal challenge but not impossible working with followers of quality, trust, and professionalism; At Red Wine Tour Baja we are ambassadors of Valle de Guadalupe, we are filled with happiness and pride at how many clients from the USA cross our border and enjoy a magical and unforgettable trip, we want more travelers to visit Valle de Guadalupe, we have everything to receive them From boutique hotels among vineyards, internationally awarded restaurants, wineries with world-winning wines, we want more travelers who love wines, gastronomy, and landscapes between mountains to be encouraged and decide to visit us, you are cordially invited!!!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Our arrival points are the San Ysidro border, known for its safety and welcoming atmosphere, and the Tijuana International Airport. From there, we enjoy a one and a half-hour drive to VDG. Upon arrival, we will have a traditional Mexican breakfast at one of my favorite restaurants, Asador Sierra Blanca, where the star of the menu is the Chilaquiles con Birria. Other restaurants with delicious breakfasts include Salvia Blanca, Parador Mercedes, and Doña Esthela’s Kitchen. After a traditional breakfast, we visit unmissable wineries with award-winning wines, such as Concierto Enologico, a boutique winery. Also, in my book list are Vinos Cruz, where you will find sparkling wines, Vinos Plata, Vinicola Martlot, Viña de Frannes, Casa Entrevez, Pictogram, Santo Brujos, Bodegas Magoni, Sol y Barro, Cava Maciel, Clos de Tres Cantos, and El Cielo. All of these are boutique wine houses with labels that will surprise you. Our Baja Med gastronomy is well represented by restaurants that are must-visits: Olivea Farm to table, Ariete, Lunario, Finca Altozano, Sizigia, Fauna, Animalon, and Villa de Torel. All of these represent our gastronomy well. Valle de Guadalupe is to be enjoyed for several days. My lodging book list includes Hotel Mya Boutique, Hotel México en la Piel, Casa Entrevez, Casa Misiones Glamping, Emmalu Hotel Boutique, and Hotel Contemplación. All of these hotels have Land Art architecture where nature and design come together. With this list, our trip becomes a great adventure that you will want to repeat!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’m the daughter of a single mom. My mom was a teacher in a town on the southern border of Mexico. She’d teach kids in the mornings at elementary school, then hustle in the afternoons, running an academy for single moms, helping them learn skills to make a living. Mom was strict, set a ton of rules, but I respected her hustle in the community. Border life toughens you up. Now, I’m all about following her lead: hard work, staying disciplined Not just representing as a travel host, but also serving as an ambassador for our border region between Baja California and California, USA.
