Meet Diana Daniele | Author, Publicist, Advocate

We had the good fortune of connecting with Diana Daniele and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Diana, Let’s talk about principles and values – what matters to you most?
It is of paramount importance to me to live a purpose-driven life.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Words have always been my favorite companion. As a child, I experimented with alliteration and onomatopoeia, which I used to create my own personal brand of poetry. I would staple together my books of poetry– and later prose–and then go about illustrating them, starting with crayons, but eventually graduating to oil pastels and then water color, my favorite medium. I also learned the ancient art of calligraphy. I began making homemade cards for my family and friends, and fancied making a business of it. However, when I hit high school, I found my true calling by working on the newspaper staff. As a senior, I was given the coveted role of “Roving Reporter. I pursued journalism in college, and became one, sharing other people’s stories with the world. Later, I segued into public relations, where I found freedom form the facts, and learned the art of the spin. In 2020, I began writing my first novel, a long-held dream. However, that novel soon made itself known that it was a memoir, so I have returned to the facts. Indeed, after years as a publicist, I have found ultimate freedom in honesty, which I now consider my superpower.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
As a native Southern Californian, I revel in showing friends and extended family around my hometown. A typical day starts with picking up my guest up at LAX in the morning, and squiring them off to Luxe Cafe on Montana Avenue in Santa Monica to share a coffee and chat. From there, it’s strolling distance to Zibby’s Bookshop to pick up a book, and continue up the avenue to see what we can see. Back in the car, we’d drive up PCH to Malibu, stopping to walk the pier and the shoreline there below. We’d work up an appetite to share a smoothie at Sunlife Organics at Cross Creek, which is across the street from one of my favorite birding destinations, the Malibu Lagoon. If my guest is so inclined, we’d venture in, as I always have binoculars in my car. On our way back down PCH, we’d stop at The Reel Inn for the seafood Catch of the Day. Before dinner drinks would be at Casa Del Mar in Santa Monica to watch the sunset and then dinner at Gjelina on Abbott Kinney in Venice. After a beach day, the next day I usually take my guests east, to drive through Brentwood and Westwood, stopping in at the bontanical garden at UCLA, my alma mater. Next up is a drive down Sunset Boulevard to Beverly Hills, stopping at my old stomping grounds: The Beverly Hills Hotel, where I was once the Director of Public Relations. We’d lunch pooside at the Cabana Club and take a nap on a chaise. Dinner would be at Yamashiro in Hollywood, a must to see the city lights.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My writer friends are an incredible support to me, as I continue on my book journey to publication. And, while we’re at it, I have outstanding friends who have supported me through some very difficult times in my mental and physical health odyssey.
