We had the good fortune of connecting with Tamara AL-Yassin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tamara, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
I was living with a nurse during the Pandemic and we were going to grad school together and working in the ER. We have a love for short form newsletters like Skimm and Morning Brew and always thought that the healthcare community, specifically nurses need content tools and resources delivered in an easily digestible format. So we build it! Nurses don’t have time to stay up-to-date with the information they need to make themselves better both at and beyond the bedside and we aggregate that information for them.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am an ER nurse turned entrepreneur. I went to business school during the pandemic and then quit when I was graduating to build The Nursing Beat. I am the first person in my family to graduate with a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree. Both of my parents are immigrants and worked really hard to raise their family. My drive comes from them. My advice is that you have to believe in yourself and what you are doing beyond even what those around you believe. Be the crazy visionary and then execute it with the right people. Many people did not believe that we could build a media company for nurses. I got a lot of ‘nos’ but it shouldn’t stop you.

We are a nurse-driven media company that has nurses at every level from our board of directors down to almost every content contributor. Last year our audience grew over 200% because our content is for nurses and most importantly by nurses. We have the only daily digital newsletter on the market for nurses.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Good question!

Happy Hour secret spot – Dear Jane’s in Marina del Rey – You will impress.
An Italian dream – Felix Trattoria in Venice – Celebrate a birthday or special occasion on their back patio.
Need a breakfast with a Canyon view? Cafe on 27 in Topanga Canyon will make you feel like you are in a tree house

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Hannah Berns – The COO of The Nursing Beat. We have worked together for many years in multiple capacities and without her leadership, attention to detail and organization, our company would not be where it is today.
