We had the good fortune of connecting with B. Hawk Snipes and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi B. Hawk, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
The thought process behind starting my own business was to be my own boss. After years of working for other people and business, I wanted something of my own. Creating my own online clothing boutique has truly taught me more about consistency, responsibility and accountability.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I started my love for the arts at the age of 10 or 11 years old at Harlem Hospital Dance Clinic in NYC. My Mother had me in performing art classes such as piano and dance. I knew at a young age I truly loved entertaining an audience and being on stage. Fast forward till now and I’m still on stage performing music and hosting shows. I am truly blessed to be doing what I love 20+ years later.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I currently travel back & forth between LA & NYC. So I can give you a little bit of both.
In LA I love going to Lavo Ristorante & Toi on sunset. And of course any time at the beach is good time with loved ones.
In NYC I love block parties in the summer. First Saturday’s at BK museum are usually always a good time. Eating at places likes “Dallas BBQs’ (Chelsea location) and “Thai Food Near Me”.
Also supporting most Black, Queer &/or Trans events are usually #1 on my list in both of these cities.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My shoutout goes out to ALL Black & Trans owned nonprofit organizations. The work that we do behind the scenes is not for the weak. But the one I’m truly thankful for is The BTFA collective, which I’m apart of. Being a member of BTFA has truly changed my life as a creative , artist and community leader.
