We had the good fortune of connecting with Thalita Bueno and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Thalita, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I wanted to extend my fashion and artistic vision through a service where I could improve someone else’s life, so after lots of overthinking and self sabotage thoughts, I decided to take my knowledge and skills to start my styling business.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
“I love this question!” (gasps in tik tok trending sounds haha)
Let’s start with the easiest one: it hasn’t been easy! As an immigrant, I knew that starting a business from scratch with no connections or resources ($$) wouldn’t be easy! But let me tell you, this industry is very hard to break into!
I started my path in fashion back when I was living in New York, paying for my FIT classes as a live-in nanny, making $6/h (you did not read this wrong). I wish I could say that my career only grew from that point, but that’s not the truth. Back then, I was also struggling with severe mental health issues while figuring out how to pay my bills, so I put my dream aside to get back into survival mode.
Only two years after moving to LA did I feel like I couldn’t hold myself anymore, and I had to express myself through this artistic channel again. Fashion, to me, has always meant freedom and a projection of the person I wanted to present to the world. I knew I could help people with something I already had as a passion.
After all the struggles I’ve faced as a person, I can say that my creativity, ability to listen, and empathy have only evolved, and my clients will feel like they are wearing exactly what they couldn’t put into words to express their message.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
A perfect day to me definitely means thrifting, art and having a nice time while eating something good ! I’d take my friend on tour by my favorite thrift stores in West Hollywood, heading to The Broad to catch an exhibit, followed by some snacks at the coffee shop right next to the museum, and would end the day in echo park, going on a walk at sunset blvd and possibly grabbing a pizza slice and a Wine glass at quarter sheets!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to dedicate this to all my friends and family who believed in me when I couldn’t believe in myself. Special thank you to my sister Natalia, who always reminds me of my potential and my partner Johnny, for all support and love on my journey. Oh and, thanks to my talented friend Nicole Gomes for shouting me out 🙂
