Meet Danny Villanueva | Screenwriter/Director

We had the good fortune of connecting with Danny Villanueva and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Danny, any advice for those thinking about whether to keep going or to give up?
I have a clear sense of whether to continue to pursue a passion or let it go. If you feel more comfortable and at ease living without it, then it’s time to hang it up. There’s an unbearable anxiety and FOMO that comes with being separated from your passions.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I grew up with a deep love for cinema and storytelling, which drove me to sculpt a life around it. If you love something so much, it’s impossible to leave it. It’s always present in your conscious and sub-conscious for as long as it’s welcome. There will always be challenges and hardships, but the joy outweighs these. I’ve learned to be patient and to understand that this career is a long game. I’m more focused on building a body of work than putting all of my emotional eggs into one basket.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m a big foodie, so restaurants are a happy place. There’s nothing better than conversation over a great meal. I’ve recently become obsessed with Indian Food. Chana Masala and Aloo Palak are favorites of mine.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I dedicate this shoutout to my parents. My Pa and late Mother gave me the freedom to grow up without imposing their ideals of what I should be. It allowed me to find myself and find a path that truly excites me.
