We had the good fortune of connecting with Ron Smoorenburg and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ron, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I was tired of the chackles and strings that society had ingrained in me, and I wanted to free myself from them. I came to the conclusion that in order to pursue my true passion—acting and fighting in action movies—I would have to make the sacrifice of breaking free from these bonds.

I got discovered by Jackie Chan for the final fight in Who am I ? an daction movie he shot in The Netherlands in 1997. I realised that you have to be where it happens so I had to move on a good soil which was Hong Kong back in the days. I realized that passion and devotion are not enough, the sacrifice part is the game changer.

What is important to have vision. The more you can envision yourself on the long term the more powerful this spell is ging to be when you stick to it

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I fought many action stars over the past 2 decades. from jackie Chan, Tony Jaa, JCVD, Michael Jay white, Gary Daniels, Scott Adkins, Donnie Yen, Kane Kosugi, Tiger Shroff, VIdut Jamwal, Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar, to Steven Seagal.

As sometimes in the movie business you cant overshine stars, I could neve show my full potential and one day my ‘friend’ in the business called me a boxing bag. THis was the day I decided to make and desigh my own fighting style called – Recharge. I developed a style from scratch like a video game character in a comic book – What I learned is that you got to be unique, have traits, gimmicks people can remember. Like KFC got its sopecial receipe. If you are a copycat you can only make it to a certain level. The game changers are always the rebels, people got ridiculed. REcharge got ridiculed and I love it because that means that im on the right way .

The harderst thing in the movie business is not the art itself, the acting, dangerous stunts, complicated choreographies….. its dealing with people who are not authentic and not have the right intentions with you

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would bring them to my training spot in Bangkok, Huay kwang area and let them feel the vibe. After well have a drink. Until now eveyone I bought there got a special feeling and a kind of good memories. While on the opposite side of the same road and same spot there are bars girls and a lot drunken people. Life is about choices

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
That’s all for those that follow their dreams. To help them cross the border of doubt, as modern society will try to trap you back into a protective bubble where you will essentially have to sell your dreams in order to make ends meet.

From those who tried to stigmatise me to those who encourage me, I believe that everyone deserves recognition for their collective efforts, which have all strengthened me.
