We had the good fortune of connecting with Blac Unikorn and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Blac Unikorn, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking.
To be honest, I’ve always been kind of a risk taker since a young girl. However, taking risks has its pros and cons because you live your life on a rollercoaster until things kind of balance out. This is due to me taking a chance on myself and my endeavors while having faith in the unforeseen events that may occur. When you think about it, being an entrepreneur is a risk in itself. I have been blessed with a multitude of side hustles to invest in my rising music career. My local massage business as well as me being an ASMR internet sensation has propelled me in the music arena. Taking risks like this has definitely played a role when it comes to my anxiety but I have worked through that with meditation and changing my perspective on life. If you want something, you have to give it your all. Use your multitude of talents to get you where you want to be.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Initially, I was unsure what my passions were so I took a journey down the “Jane of all Trades” path. I spent a few years in Chicago State University, picked up some trades and modeling gigs while I indulged in the adult entertainment industry just to pay my bills. In the midst of finding myself, something in my spirit told me to explore other sides of the country. So, I decided to move to Los Angeles. Los Angeles is where I tapped more into my creative and spiritual side. I was able to go to Massage School and establish my massage practice. I was able to discover my gifts and passions through music and storytelling under the Blac Unikorn alias. However, living in Los Angeles was not a walk in the park. The cost of living is way more expensive than in my hometown. I had to find ways to pick up multiple hustles to pay rent. I also got pregnant in the midst of my transition to LA so now I’m a mom on top of all the things I’m pursuing. Being a mother is a different type of responsibility that must be met. But, I must admit, when you have someone depending on you in that aspect, it brings out another level of hustle in you. A lot of people may know me for my risqué ASMR content but I’m also a rising musician. I am grateful for the opportunities I received to pursue a music career. Eventually entertainment and my business investments will be in the forefront being I want to leave behind wisdom and generational wealth to my family.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well my family and friends from Chicago have all visited me at one point or another. The first thing everyone wants to do as LA tourists is to eat! We always check out Mild Sauce La, Harold’s and Juicy J’s Chicago Eats being these are Chicago inspired restaurants. We want to see how close they are to the Chicago culture styled food. Then I take them to places like, Dulan’s for Soulfood and Roscoe’s Chicken & Waffles for a down to earth authentic LA vibe. We also go to Tao when feeling a bougie vibe. So much to explore here. This is just the beginning.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to thank the Los Angeles community for welcoming me with open arms in all my endeavors. I’m from Chicago and it can be a lonely ride on the come up when it comes to finding genuine people in a new city. However, my local Los Angeles massage business has been thriving from the support of the community. This business has been able to help fund my long term endeavors such as entertainment and business investments. In addition to that, my Chicago family has been my backbone through ALL my entrepreneurial efforts. None of this is possible without God giving me the willpower to fight for what I want and I’m thankful for the process.
