Meet Jamaal Hassan | Film Director & Writer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jamaal Hassan and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jamaal, do you have any habits that you feel contribute to your effectiveness?
The habits that have pushed me towards success include daily reading and praying, starting my mornings with something that settles my mind, like prayers from Gabriel Fernandez, and working out to boost my mood. I also enjoy getting outdoors, soaking up the sun or getting into a body of water, and regularly challenging myself with something tough.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Q: Please tell us more about your art. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others and what you are most proud of or excited about.
A: What sets me apart is my deep empathy for people. When creating stories for film, I aim to highlight voices that often go unheard. I’m most excited about fulfilling the vision God has for me, and the journey itself is incredibly rewarding, making me more present and connected to my purpose.
Q: How did you get to where you are today professionally? Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way? What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
A: I got here by falling 1,000 times and getting back up each time. The key is to not dwell on the falls but to be grateful for the chance to rise with more insight. My faith in Yeshua has been my cornerstone. One pivotal moment was in 2017 when I went cliff jumping in Hawaii. A close call with the ocean’s waves reminded me of the strength within and the importance of perseverance. This experience reinforced my belief in my purpose to create for the Kingdom of God. Through my brand, I strive to offer hope and inspire people while creating a global impact.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Day 1:
Morning: would start with a workout to start of the week then head to Simply wholesome for a protein shake
Afternoon: We would take a leisurely stroll along the beautiful beaches or catch a quick hike.
Evening: We’d grab some desserts and snacks and plan for a movie night.
Day 2
Morning: Workout. Hike. Food!
Afternoon: We would continue our exploration of the city, checking out iconic landmarks like Leimert Park and connecting with creatives and business owners in the area.
Evening: To unwind, we’d find a cozy spot to watch a sunset then later a movie at the theatre to end the night.
Day 3-7:
The following days would be filled with a mix of activities, including eating, planning for the future, working out and networking. Enjoying live music performances at local venues or attending a comedy show. Indulging in a variety of culinary experiences, trying out different cuisines from food trucks, trendy restaurants, and hidden gems.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My faith in Yeshua and God
