Meet Emma Maddock | Soccer Fit Founder

We had the good fortune of connecting with Emma Maddock and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Emma, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
It’s something that’s been an idea of mine for a couple of years now. Last year, I felt like I was just waiting for things to happen to me, so this year I made a promise to myself that I’d put myself out there and go after what I wanted.
The idea of SOCCER FIT came from a mixture of my own likes and dislikes.
Firstly, I get so bored at the gym or just running, but if there’s an objective or a game, I don’t think about the fact that I’m working out, it becomes fun and I tend to push myself harder.
Secondly, I’ve been coaching soccer for over 6 years now. So, I combined elements of a full-body workout with soccer skills, drills and games to create a new type of fitness class for those looking to have fun, get fit and learn some new skills.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Soccer Fit is for adults and children. The children’s sessions are focused on gameplay, technical skills and learning how to actually play soccer. The adult sessions are soccer-inspired fitness.
I wanted to create something for people of all abilities. You might have never kicked a ball in your life – and Soccer Fit is still right for you. I feel like there’s so much on offer at a youth or professional level, but not really anywhere you can learn and have fun in between those two, so I aim to provide that.
Having fun is a huge element of Soccer Fit! Of course you’re going to be working hard, sweating and possibly calling me some names under your breath… but you will leave with a smile on your face! By incorporating games that feel more like playing and less like workout drills, it tricks your brain (sorry brain) and your focus shifts to the objective of the game rather than just focusing on the exercise. This enables you to push for longer.
Also working out outside is the best way to start your day! You’re getting fresh air, vitamin D, it improves sleep quality, boosts your immune system and improves overall mental wellness.
It’s a company that’s still just starting out but I’m really enjoying the journey and based off feedback – it’s a workout people really enjoy.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Everyone’s going to judge how basic my recommendations are but most of the people that visit me are from England, so we do all the American touristy things. We’d do In N Out, Dave’s Hot Chicken, El Tejano and The Fat Dog in Noho – my local fave. Big fan of going to places I can walk to. I also take everyone to Gindi Thai in Toluca Lake.
Got to do the classics: Hollywood Walk of Fame and the handprints at The Chinese Theatre, Griffith Observatory and the Hollywood Sign view from Lake Hollywood. I also like to show them Venice Beach – I love the life and energy there.
We try and hike either Runyon or Wisdom Tree. If we have time and there’s something good on we’ll try and do the Hollywood Bowl or Greek Theatre. If Angel City are playing then we might see a game!
Other than that – it’s cocktails, board games and relaxing by the pool.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I started coaching in LA with GB Soccer School. Working with them helped with my confidence when it comes to instructing large groups. Also, having the guided freedom to structure my own classes enabled me to find my own style of coaching.
Secondly, shout out to Abreah and her WRKHRD bootcamp. I was able to attend her 6-week bootcamp this year and it definitely inspired me to finally get Soccer Fit up and running.
