We had the good fortune of connecting with J6 and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi j6, let’s start by talking about what inspires you?
Aside from my friends and artists I look up to, the culture.
Dance music is driving force in today’s society, it comes with different styles of expression and everyone contributing has something interesting to showcase for the crowds.
No matter how I see it, all artists contribute to the culture in some way either through making music, creating visual assets, shooting photos, or even just being a local DJ. Everyone plays their part in creating a fun and safe atmosphere which builds long lasting memories with friends and family
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Finding your unique sound as an artist is a challenging journey that involves a significant amount of trial and error. At the start, during what I think many refer to as their “experimental phase,” I was creating slower, more progressive and dark techno tracks. However, as I continued to explore and immerse myself in various after parties and club shows through out the LA Rave scene, my style evolved. I began to produce faster-paced music with a strong influence classic techno and trance tracks from the 90s and early 2000s. The future of the j6 project promises a dynamic and versatile sound, blending hard techno with driving bass lines, Hard grooves , and of course trance.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would probably take them to various underground parties either hosted by 6AM or LickNDip which are the two most popular parties in the LA underground techno scene. Both parties never disappoint with their line up of artist. Everyone they book at these parties bring their own style to the mix and are always ready to share the music they love with the rest of the community.
In terms of local food, I always take my friends to tacos 1986 in downtown Los Angeles, Every time you go in there the energy of the customers is always high and their tacos are always amazing. They have their own take on the Mexican classic of al pastor from their hometown in Mexico and call it adobada.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to start by giving a huge thank you to my amazing home label, WITH Records. They’ve been instrumental in bringing my project to life, handling the visual aspects, and giving me the freedom to truly express myself through my art. I honestly can’t imagine moving forward without their support.
Next, a BIG shout out to my friend, Pixie Dust! She’s the future trance queen of the LA underground and has been a huge influence in my life. Her constant music recommendations and motivation mean the world to me. We have an EP coming out later this year and we are excited for the world to hear our sound.
And of course, I have to thank the Split Checks. They have been incredible friends and supporters over the last couple of years, taking care of me both as an artist and as friends. I’m incredibly grateful to have met them.
