Meet Jason Tobias | Actor I Writer I Director

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jason Tobias and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jason, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
Hey there!
Great to be back here and talking with you all. There are a lot of quotes I’ve accumulated over the years that have been a spur of inspiration in my journey – one that comes to mind currently is: “Nobody Cares. Work Harder”
It’s a staunch reminder of the fact that most of the struggles we face are such an isolated experiences. Sure, there can be people that may empathize and see you going through the incident or incidents, but the reality is that most are caught up in their own journeys and therefore really don’t care.
This isn’t a nihilistic outlook by any means either – quite the contrary to be honest. It puts the emphasis on yourself to understand that ‘no one is coming to save you’ and thus you’ll need to put your head down and put the work in. Period.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Getting to the point of ‘comfort’ has never been something that I’ve actually strived for – instead, I’ve been more focused on doing what I love and being the best I can whenever that opportunity has shown itself.
Sure, ‘life’ must still be maintained in the pursuit of ‘the dream’ but there isn’t a day that doesn’t go by that I’m not pushing towards the goals that are in front of me. So, if the job that can provide the freedom to continue to work longer in Los Angeles, or provide more financial freedom to focus on more of the things that I’m working towards, then I will put my head down and grind.
It’s a very expensive city and lifestyle here (*in LA) so there’s sacrifices that need to be made and things are rarely ‘given’ here… understanding that – knowing your competition, is key in the way to approach and get your mind right.
I hope this isn’t coming off like some kind of ‘Warrior Mantra’, ha! But there is a mindset that I do believe you need to have to truly focus and go after things with the least amount of distractions.
If there’s anything I’ve learned in the battle is that: Surrounding yourself with smarter, more capable, good hearted and professionals that you’d like to emulate or LEARN from, may be one of the best ways to really hone your approach. If they’ve ‘done it’ already then why not learn from those that have ‘been there’, ya know…?

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Whenever I have friends visit me I always ask them: “What are you interested in? Nightlife? Nature? Food? Sights? Culture?” That way I can tailor the experience more to their liking. First things first – I’d take them out to Gjusta in Venice for a breakfast on day one. They’ve got an incredible menu, the vibe is super chill and it’s a artisanal bakery that’s second to none. We’d then spend the day at Venice Beach or Santa Monica. Rent some bikes and ride the strand. Checking out the wide display of diversity each beach has for its surroundings.
Next day I’d head up to Topanga Canyon for a hike. It’s a great spot that doesn’t typically get overcrowded and has some breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean, Santa Monica and Pacific Palisades. Later, we’d head over in to Brentwood and enjoy some food with some of the shops that cater to fresh ‘farm to table’ restaurants.
The following day I’d hit Hollywood and Beverly Hills. No Los Angeles trip is complete without at least seeing one of the two world wide known destinations. Driving through the neighborhoods and checking out the Sunset strip gives anyone a nice look at a world, within a world. Food in the La Brea area is a good choice there. Pink’s Hot Dogs may be the stop.
Grabbing tickets to a Dodger game is a must do and also seeing the Downtown LA areas as well. Crypto.com arena and the places around there are a nice break from the neighborhoods that are everywhere and it actually feels like you’re in a city as well. Seeing the downtown skyline from ‘Perch’ (*Restaurant) would be a great cap to the evening.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would not be here without the amazing people I’ve come across in my life. The path to achieving your dreams isn’t solely made in a vacuum in my experience. There’s times where you need to ask for help. For guidance. For partnership. These people have been crucial in my growth and I couldn’t be more proud to call them peers, friends and family.
Lucas Solomon and Blair Pennington, are two incredible businessmen who’ve been kind enough to come on board and believe in the vision and trajectory of how Action Figure Ent. (*our company) can grow. Their combined expertise in the entertainment and business world has been imperative in the successes I’ve been able to be a part of.
My father is another one who’s continued belief and support in the career I’ve chosen, has been the light and the ‘fuel’ to keep me focused in some of the hardest times. There isn’t a road map to this career. It’s rife with a ton ups and downs. It’s very much a feast or famine type of choice in a lot of ways. I’m incredibly grateful for him.
