Meet Camille Mejia | Founder of Pickle N’ Tequila

We had the good fortune of connecting with Camille Mejia and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Camille, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor behind the success of Pickle N’ Tequila is the connection we’ve been able to build with our community. We’re incredibly grateful for the people who choose to spend their time with us, especially those who come back regularly, even weekly. Our goal has always been to create a welcoming space where everyone feels included and encouraged to try a new sport, and it means the world to us that so many people have embraced that. We don’t take this for granted, and we’re always striving to ensure that our events feel like a place where everyone belongs and can make new friends.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Pickle N Tequila is about making new friends and finding a community where you feel at home, all while playing pickleball and enjoying a drink or two. We’re not focused on getting upset over lost points; we’d rather toast to the wins. We host a range of events with great brands to give our community something fun and different, including speed dating pickleball tournaments that offer a laid-back way to meet singles in the area.
Getting to where we are today hasn’t always been easy. We’ve faced challenges, particularly in finding the right venues and event models that suit our community. But we’ve learned to keep experimenting and adapting to see what works best. The most important thing to us is staying focused on building connections and creating a welcoming space for everyone.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
That’s a great question! I’d start out with making sure we’re eating at some of my favorite spots: Great White, Good Boy Bob, Fia, Gjusta, check out a taco stand and many more. We’re definitely walking along Abbot Kinney and spending time at the beach. At some point we’d do a little shopping at Century City and grab an Aperol Spritz at the rooftop of Eataly. And of course go to a Pickle N Tequila event!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d love to give a big shoutout to Corliss and Erik, who are both essential to making Pickle N Tequila what it is today. Corliss captures amazing photos that our community absolutely loves, really bringing the spirit of our events to life. Erik handles all the backend processes that keep everything running smoothly. They both help bounce ideas around and bring so much creativity and energy to the table. Beyond their specific roles, both Corliss and Erik go out of their way to connect with the community at our events, making sure everyone feels welcome and included. Their contributions are invaluable, and Pickle N Tequila wouldn’t be the same without them.
