We had the good fortune of connecting with Chae’ Jones and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Chae’, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor behind my success is that I haven’t given up, and putting into perspective how I define success. It’s easy to quit and give up when things get hard. I could have gone back to my hometown and figure out another career path and been comfortable, but that choice wouldn’t lead to my happiness. The road I’ve been on hasn’t been easy, but if it was easy, would all the hard work really be worth it?

I’m a big fan of it doesn’t matter how many times you get knocked down as long as you never stay down. Everything meant for me will be for me. It’s easy to try to measure where you are currently to others, but I’m not on their journey. I always remind myself I’m on my own. It’s going to look different and it should be different.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I want the world to know one of the things I learned about myself is that it’s okay to take up space. It’s okay to be your biggest champion. Believing in yourself and your abilities will get you through anything. I have never fit into a box no matter how much I’ve tried. I am a host of contradictions and quirks. I have always advocated for diversity and representation in media, because I know that I am worthy of so much more than the world would like to believe. Every persons stories deserves to be told. Every persons stories deserves to be seen. I believe in the importance of cultural equity.

Don’t be afraid to fail. You learn a lot from your success but you learn more from your failures.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Some of my favorite places in Los Angeles is The Getty Museum and The Broad. I absolutely love art and all its different forms and I think it’s something everyone should experience in the city. Then we’d head to The Last Bookstore. I’d take them to a show at The Bourbon Room or Pantages. We’d go to breakfast at The Griddle Cafe and Blu Jam Cafe. We have to go to Mel ‘s Drive-In because it’s such a staple. Dinner at Castaways. Then Amoeba Music. My favorite outside cinema experience is Cinespia and it’s definitely a one of a kind experience. Check out the Echo Park Swans, and the Hollywood Chinese Theater. Spend a girl’s day out at the Wi Spa. Then the day before she leaves go to Disneyland.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to Bernard and Cecilia Love. Without them I would not be the person I am today. My godparents raised me when my birth mom was no longer able to. I cannot be more grateful or blessed to have been raised by these incredible people that I call mom and dad. Thank you for loving me unconditionally and supporting me through each phase in my journey.
