We had the good fortune of connecting with Aaron Myers and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Aaron, we’d love to hear what makes you happy.
I love this question! I am a pretty optimistic person I find joy in many things. Waking up, having a loving family, amazing friends. It’s really hard to narrow down one thing that makes me happy. However, if I had to choose just one I would say being myself. I’ve had a long winding adventure to become the person I am today. Battling self confidence issues, anxiety, and the overall feeling that I wouldn’t be able to succeed in the goals I set for myself. In high school I constantly found myself asking, “am I on the right path? Is this what I want for myself in the future?” I can now confidently say yes! Through my passion for music and film I have found the greatest of journeys for myself. I’ve met amazing mentors and teachers to help me develop my skills in these respective fields. I’ve made amazing, insanely creative, friends to collaborate with and that have accepted me for who I am entirely. No need to worry about who to impress or even how I dress, I can be my full self. That has made me the happiest person in the world.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I like to think I’m an artist of the people. I like to be very transparent about who I am and what I am creating. I’m still new at this! A lot of it! Being in the arts is one of things that I think has some of the hardest skills to practice. For example, for me my specialties are film and music. Specifically directing, sound mixing, and electronic music production with a bit of DJing. All of these things are very hard to just jump into, and you can’t just practice them at the blink of an eye. It all takes time, effort, collaboration, learning on the fly and self taught discipline. I want people to understand that the work I’m making may not look the same or sound the same as their favorite famous directors or musicians but it definitely has the same passion!

As for where I stand today professionally, I’m getting more and more work done! I’m still a student at CSUN but I’m continuing to work on film sets, DJ more events now that the semester has started, and make more music. It’s good to be back in a creative environment especially with all my friends, because now we can all encourage each other to make things.

I’ve really learned to appreciate your network. Half of all the amazing things I get to take part in are through one of my friends knowing somebody who needs something and I just so happen to fill that need. It takes you far and at those events you can create even more connections to get on even more gigs. It’s a cycle in a sense, knowing who to know as one would say it. I want people to know that at heart I am a collaborator. I love working with others, it’s where I thrive and do my best work.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oh my goodness this is a crazy question. I grew up in OC so there’s a ton of stuff to do over there. Knotts Berry Farm, Disneyland. I love this place called Joes italian ice. They switch out flavors daily and it’s always fun wondering what flavors they’ll have on specific days. Sometimes they have this flavor called Dreamsicle and it’s one of the best flavors their I promise. I also just really love beautiful views and I think living so close to the coast is a dream come true for that. A quick sunset to end the week long trip would be amazing!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to shoutout my best friend Ricky! He’s my best friend since elementary school and he constantly pushes me to be better and develop as a person, filmmaker, and musician. Seriously without him I don’t know if I’d have the push to do what I do.
