We had the good fortune of connecting with Santiago Forero and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Santiago, we’d love to hear what makes you happy.
I love revisiting the films and games from my childhood that shaped who I am today—they remind me why I chose to pursue art as a career. I also find immense joy in seeing the incredible work of other CG artists, especially the friends I’ve made at my school, Gnomon. Watching them share their passions and succeed in their careers is truly inspiring and exciting for me.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I’m a CG artist focusing on 3D environment art for video games, and I find it incredibly rewarding to explore the storytelling potential of environment design. I’ve always emphasized composition and lighting in my work, and it’s been great to receive recognition for these elements during my time at Gnomon. One of my proudest moments was being named a finalist for the Rookie Awards, a yearly competition for emerging artists. I was a finalist in the game development category and was voted People’s Choice.

What sets me apart is my perseverance and adaptability. When I first started pursuing 3D art in my home country, I faced limited opportunities and few professional development options. Determined to overcome these challenges, I made it my mission to seek out opportunities, no matter how distant they seemed. Financing my education was tough, but I was committed to finding scholarships and making my dream a reality.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love checking out places where creative people hang out. It’s always fun to see their work and soak up their energy. The Pantages Theatre and the area around Hollywood and Vine are really cool for that—there’s always something going on. The American Cinematheque is another favorite; they regularly host events and draw in a lot of creative people. Both spots are great for getting inspired and enjoying the city’s artistic side.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I definitely want to give a shoutout to my family and friends, who have been there for me no matter what. Their support means everything. I also owe a huge thanks to my school and the environment they’ve created. It’s full of ambitious people who push you to work hard and stay disciplined. Being around such driven individuals has been amazing—It’s true that surrounding yourself with the best motivates you to be your best.
