We had the good fortune of connecting with Jingjing Wu and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jingjing, why did you pursue a creative career?
I’ve had a deep interest in art since I was a child. Growing up, I volunteered for a year as a docent at an art museum. During that time, I was amazed at how each viewer could have a unique understanding and emotional response to the same piece of art.

I also love to travel, and during a volunteer experience in Africa, I worked with local children. I discovered that even in places with limited resources, animation can bring joy to children.

These experiences have solidified my determination to pursue a career in the arts. I want to create something beautiful that resonates with people.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I primarily work with 3D art, and as someone from China, I’ve recently been researching how to apply 3D technology to traditional Chinese ink art. I created a 3D ink animation titled Jiangxue, which has been selected for nine film festivals and has won awards at two of them. The creation process involved many technical challenges, but I’ve learned the importance of continuous learning and the value of seeking advice and listening to the opinions of those around me to continually improve my work.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take my friends to the Getty Center, Griffith Observatory, Universal Studios, and Disneyland. We’d also visit Santa Monica Beach. The Getty Center offers a fantastic collection of artwork, and the building itself provides a stunning view from the top of the hill. The Griffith Observatory is rich with astronomical information and offers a beautiful view of the stars. The two theme parks are sure to bring joy. Plus, the city has amazing Mexican food.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The professors I met at Savannah College of Art and Design were dedicated and passionate. They encouraged us to follow our hearts, pursue what we love, and continuously take the time to learn and improve our skills.
