We had the good fortune of connecting with Umer Hameed and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Umer, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I’ve always liked the idea of working for myself and being creative. I saw there was a big demand for custom apparel—whether it’s for businesses, events, or personal use. I wanted to offer more than just basic products; I wanted to help people create something unique. That’s how Merchcraft came about. It’s about delivering high-quality screen printing and embroidery while making the process easy for our clients.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My career has been all about building something from the ground up. When I started Merchcraft, I knew I wanted to do more than just print shirts or stitch logos. I wanted to create a brand that focuses on delivering quality and creativity while making the process simple for the customer. What sets Merchcraft apart is our attention to detail and the care we put into every project—whether it’s screen printing, embroidery, or custom apparel sourcing.

Getting to where I am today wasn’t easy. Like any entrepreneur, I faced challenges—balancing budgets, learning new skills, and managing a growing team. But I kept pushing forward by focusing on the end goal: delivering great products and making sure clients are happy. One key lesson I’ve learned is that persistence and adaptability are essential. You have to be ready to learn, adjust, and keep improving.

What I’m most proud of is the trust we’ve built with our clients. Many come back to us because they know they’ll get top-notch quality and personal service. I want the world to know that Merchcraft is about more than just making apparel—it’s about helping people and businesses bring their ideas to life, one stitch or print at a time.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Snowboarding at Big Bear
Next, we’d hit the slopes at Big Bear Lake for a day of snowboarding. I’d show them my favorite runs, and we’d enjoy lunch at one of the mountain lodges. After a day on the snow, we’d relax with some hot cocoa and maybe stay overnight in a cozy cabin.

Car Meet or Show
We’d check out a local car event or meet, depending on what’s happening. It’s always fun to see classic cars and meet fellow enthusiasts. We’d grab lunch at a nearby diner, like The Roadhouse, and spend the afternoon checking out rides.

Off-Road Adventure
We’d switch things up with an off-road adventure. Whether it’s riding dirt bikes or ATVs, we’d find a good spot like Ocotillo Wells for some fun in the dirt. Afterward, we’d unwind at a campsite and have a barbecue.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are definitely a few people who played a big part in my journey. First and foremost, my family—especially my parents—for always encouraging me to take risks and follow my passion. I’ve also had great mentors along the way, particularly in business and marketing, who guided me and helped me navigate challenges. Lastly, I want to give credit to my team at Merchcraft. They work hard every day to make sure we deliver top-notch quality and service to our clients. Without them, none of this would be possible.
