We had the good fortune of connecting with Shannon Soller and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shannon, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
My partner Simone and I founded Beauty Beyond 8 years ago out of our own frustration with the traditional retail shopping experience. The clean beauty scene was not as fashionable as it is today and we wanted to cut through the clutter and confusion, curate the most active and effective products available and provide our clients with a truly unique shopping experience. One that was rooted in high level service, trust and transparency. No longer would you have to spend hours at a makeup counter being sold thousands of dollars in products that you have no idea how to use when you get home, or countess nights scrolling through online tutorials on how to take care of your skin. At Beauty Beyond are your skincare stylists. We are ingredient enthusiasts who spend the time doing the research, working with founders, doctors and brands to find the best in clean beauty. We then work with each client privately-either in person or over zoom- to help them go through their own personal purging process. Let’s be honest, most people hold on to way too much “stuff.” Expired face cream they don’t love but for some reason have not thrown away, that gift with purchase they will never use but is still taking up space in their bathroom drawer, or that makeup pallet from college that is still unused after 15 years. We begin with the edit and then create a customized and simplified skincare regime (with samples to try) and makeup lesson (along with a chart teaching you step by step how to apply). For us its not just about selling stuff its about building relationships. We work on referrals. Truly passionate about helping our clients feel confident, supported, educated and empowered.
What should our readers know about your business?
Beauty Beyond is truly unique having over 45 curated luxury clean beauty brands available to our clients. We start our consultations in our clients bathrooms to help them go through their own personal purging process. Let’s be honest, most people hold on to way too much “stuff.” Expired face cream they don’t love but for some reason have not thrown away, that gift with purchase they will never use but is still taking up space in their bathroom drawer, or that makeup pallet from college that is still unused after 15 years. We begin with the edit and then create a customized and simplified skincare regime (with samples to try) and a makeup lesson (along with a chart teaching you step by step how to apply). For us its not just about selling stuff its about building relationships. We are truly passionate about helping our clients feel confident, supported, educated and empowered. We have grown our business organically through word of mouth and referrals and in the past three years expanded into working with Dr. Moy, Fincher, Chipps and Hermann at Rodeo Derm. We offer cosmetic consulting for patients who are recovering from various procedures including CO2’s and Neck Lifts. Providing patients with support and education on how to best to take care of their skin with clean beauty options allows for optimal long-term results from their procedures.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Living in LA for 22 years I have always loved that you can have so many experiences within one city. I live off Mandeville Canyon in Brentwood so we would spend time hiking with the dogs up Westridge and Sullivan Canyons. We would go to the beach at SoHo House in Malibu and surf at Zuma. I would take them to workout at Platefit for the best 27 min work out. My local foodie and coffee favorites are Estate Coffee in the Palisades, Blue Bottle at the Country Mart, Manuela for afternoon lunch and cocktails, the best Bread ever at Jyan Isaac on Ocean Park and the back downtown for sushi at Sushi Gen. We would hit Century Spa- my absolute favorite Korean Spa. And since I am a hockey mom, there would be at least a visit or two to El Segundo the Toyota Sports Center for a practice or a game.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I love this question and could not agree more that our successes are worthless without those that have helped guide and support us along the way. In my Beauty Beyond life my husband Craig deserves a Shoutout for believing in me and supporting my desire to become a female founder and passionately pursue a career that would allow me the flexibility to be actively involved in raising our children. A Shoutout to our clients with whom we are so grateful to for trusting us with their skin and for their loyalty to us by continuing to purchase products from us. A Shoutout to the incredible brands we work with. Particularly to Lauren Goldfadden of Goldfaden MD and Nicole Arranaga of La Bella Donna -the first two brands we carried and whom both are female founders, wives, mothers and all around incredible women we admire. And of course a big Shoutout to my partner, Simone Capelouto. She is poised and driven and smart. We have grown together during the past 8 years and I am so grateful to have a partner like her to continue our Beauty Beyond journey together.
