We had the good fortune of connecting with Paul Levine and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Paul, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
I noticed I had tons of unused samples and sounds after making music for such a long time. I decided instead of them taking up space on my computer I should give them away for others to use. I started going through everything I had ever made. I sort sounds, sounds I’ll use for my projects, and sounds I’ll give to the community. After going through everything I realized that I had hundreds of samples and thousands of sounds to give away for free and for sale. I started packaging things and uploading them to my site ‘bootloop.shop’. I’ve been constantly working on samples, sounds, vsts, and sound designing tools since then.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Bootloop provides digital assets such as samples, drum packs, processing chains, sound designing tools, and vsts for producers and artists. What sets us apart from other sample companies is that we have an emphasis on building your own sound. We recently started developing a drum sound designing tool to help producers design their own unique drum sounds from scratch. The idea first came to fruition because I had accumulated so many unused samples and instrumentals. It is easy working and developing our products, but our reach is limited. I am currently focusing on marketing our product on YouTube through production videos and some ads to help increase our reach. The biggest lesson I learned along the way was backlog content and products. If you have a lot in the vault before you start promoting anything you will have an easier time staying consistent because you don’t have to work on products or content after every drop. I spent months planning out the releases and content for the year before mentioning anything on the internet.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
The first place I would take them to would be Sawtelle for some food. When I go out the highlights are always the places to eat. I would take them to MoguMogu to eat their Mazemen ramen. I would take them down to the village in Leimert Park to eat some Ackee Bamboo and buy some shoes at Sole Folks. We could get drinks at a rooftop lounge in Marina Del Rey. In reality, if a friend of mine came to visit we probably be working on some music or some visual. We’d spend our time working, recording, planning, and filming. I find the most fulfillment in creating rather than solely hanging out.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to give a big shoutout to Fred Da my high school Film teacher for helping me develop my creative skills. Pushing me to reach my creative potential. Not only did Fred introduce me to the world of film and what good cinema is, but he also encouraged and mentored me during the early stages of my rap/production journey. Fred was the only one to push me to continue working on film and music especially when I came to class with nothing to show. He also kept it real with feedback and things I should work on with my art. Taking his classes helped me grow the most as an artist. As a budding music artist, Fred helped my brother and I facilitate a deal with Bordel Records, the label he was signed to. I can’t thank Fred enough. When I think back to when I started taking music and film seriously, he was the one to spark that fire in me.
