We had the good fortune of connecting with Ryan Summer and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ryan, do you have any habits that you feel contribute to your effectiveness?
Consistency is absolute key. Whether that’s consistently keeping in good physical shape, having a good attitude so people warm to you, turning up to work on time, it all links to being consistently good. If people can see you as a solid, stable person that’s easy to work with then opportunities will come.

Politeness always goes along way, whether that’s on email or in person. If you can be seen as a genuinely nice person and a pleasure to have around then people will want you around.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
It’s been a long road to where I am today. I used to be a tennis player, I reached 100 in Europe under 16 and a world ranked junior. I couldn’t quite make it as a pro so fell in to tennis coaching for a few years. I enjoyed it and got to travel but it always haunted me not becoming the star I wanted to be. Fast forward a few years and an opportunity comes to help produce a few short films, written and directed by my dad. I stepped into the world of film making and absolutely loved it. From that moment, I got involved in as many projects as possible, whether that was for my Dad or other companies. After a project was cut short, I had free time and wanted to try my hand infront of the camera. I joined acting classes and an agency, and after being onset infront of the camera, I soon realised that this is my home. I loved it, felt comfortable and it feels like a second opportunity to realise my dreams. I’ve taken to it quickly and worked with some amazing people on awesome productions. It was a struggle financially when I transitioned to acting, but I knew I had to keep going. I’ve learned that if you really want something, you have to go for it and everything you do has to revolve around that goal to give yourself the best chance. Patience is key, along as you do your best everyday then things will come. I’m excited about the future and what it holds. I’ll be visiting LA in January 2025, staying with an old friend and cannot wait to be there.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I lived in LA when I was younger for tennis, now I’m returning to the City for acting. The spots I loved when I was there was Venice Beach, some cool bars in Santa Monica and the clubs in Hollywood.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Shoutout to Antonio Robertson, for opening his home again and letting me stay with him in LA.
