We had the good fortune of connecting with Dee Simon and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dee, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Back in 2006, after a few years as the night DJ on Rampage Radio and a strip club DJ, inspired by Ricky Gervais, I thought podcasts would be the next big thing. I was right, but I also didn’t expect to still be doing the show 19 years later, which makes us one of the longest-running podcasts in the world.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Hosts Dee Simon and Kate Rambo cut a swath through the elite shadowy cabals and opioid-addled mass shooters that run our world to deliver a weekly dose of nihilistic satire. They wade through the weirdest of the weird, from the sex cults and brutal murders of yesteryear to the internet conspiracies of today, before they become the fake news of tomorrow. Sick and Wrong Podcast is one of the longest-running indie comedy podcasts, diddling while Rome burns since 2006.

We’ve changed hosts twice over the years, but the original hosts were Dee and Lance Wackerly. After a decade on the air, Lance had met his wife through the show, got married, and decided he had had more than enough with pod-crafting, as he called it. And in stepped his replacement, Harrison. During the Harrison years, Kate first picked up the headphones and started listening – never knowing that she would one day replace him in more ways than one.

We got married in 2021, probably one of the best outcomes from the show, but after 19 years nothing shocks me in this Sick & Wrong world.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
LA is the land of Noir and Crime and Grime.

The Rainbow! The Tate/ La Bianca house! The Sunset Strip! Boys Toy! Getting hip at Frog town! All the cemeteries filled with all the dead Hollywood stars. Driving a car round impossible bends at midnight! Canters & the Kibbitz! Monty’s downtown! Wow Downtown, what a trip, a short one if you name was Elizabeth!

LA has a wide range of options of things to do until they narrow to become live or die. We choose to live.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
In LA, we have to say thanks to hard-working dames Lenora Claire and Ryan Keely, both of whom keep LA LA Land sane.

Pig Baby Records out in Altadena keep the rock and roll loud.

A defector from LA but one we pay homage to on a weekly basis on the show is James Ellroy, long may the Demon Dog keep prowling into the night.
