We had the good fortune of connecting with Lindsay Matthews and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lindsay, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I started Peachy Pilates during the early days of the pandemic, when I transitioned from teaching in busy studios in the Northeast to offering private online sessions. It wasn’t a carefully crafted business plan, but more a response to the changing times. As a result, my business has evolved in a variety of ways over the years. While I still teach one-on-one sessions online for clients who are out of the area now that I’m in LA, I’ve moved away from the original membership model of on-demand workouts that was so popular when I first started. My focus has since shifted to a more personalized, concierge-style approach—either traveling to clients’ homes or welcoming them into mine to practice Pilates with a variety of equipment like the reformer, mat, resistance bands, and cadillac. I’ve really enjoyed experimenting with what works in different regions and adapting along the way.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My journey to where I am today has been anything but easy, but it’s been incredibly rewarding. I was a full-time publicist in Manhattan when I decided to dive into Pilates teacher training, not fully understanding just how demanding the process would be. The training turned out to be far harder than I’d imagined, but I knew deep down it was worth it. It was during that intense period that I made the shift to project-based PR work, allowing me the flexibility to fully immerse myself in my Pilates journey while still being able to generate income. It wasn’t an easy transition, but I embraced the change because I knew in my heart that Pilates was the path I was meant to pursue. And looking back, I wouldn’t have it any other way.

What sets me apart, I think, is the deep connection I have with my clients. Sure, I teach Pilates, but my work goes beyond that. Many of my clients have become some of my closest friends—they’re not just people I see a few times a week, they’re a huge part of my life. I’ve had the privilege of witnessing their journeys through big life changes: marriages, children, career shifts, and all the special moments in between. I love doing life with them. They inspire me just as much as I hope I inspire them.

Along the way, I’ve learned how to be flexible and adaptable—especially in today’s ever-changing world. When I first started teaching, I never imagined I’d be flying to place like Australia to teach Pilates with Your Reformer or working with some of LA’s most elite. But that’s the beauty of this work: it’s always evolving, and I’ve learned to roll with the changes.

In many ways, I think my role as a Pilates instructor goes beyond just teaching movement. Sometimes I’m a sounding board, a travel buddy, or just a good friend who’s there to listen. Pilates is the vehicle, but the relationships I’ve built with my clients are what truly drive me.

If there’s one thing I want the world to know about me and Peachy Pilates, it’s that this isn’t just a business—it’s a community. I’m proud to create a space where people can connect, grow, and become the best versions of themselves, both physically and emotionally. It’s all about nurturing that bond and making sure that, in the process, we all become a little better, together.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
There are so many places I love to go and things I love to do when friends visit LA. I always take people up PCH to my favorite beach, Staircase Beach—it’s the perfect spot to relax, and my pup can join us. I also have to fit in a hike, usually somewhere I consider touristy like Griffith Park or Runyon Canyon, so they can get get the full experience of drinking a matcha latte, strolling uphill, and calling it a hike. I love for them to try all the matcha and coffee spots I find on TikTok.

One of my go to spots to unwind and catch up is Den Mother in Venice. Get the coconut milk foot soak. You won’t regret it. Speaking of Venice, I also love dinner at Ospi. That ricotta-topped bread is everything—I dream about it. I used to write for a food blog in New York, so I’m always on the lookout for amazing places to eat. As much as I’m in love with all the LA energy, I’m also a homebody at heart. I really appreciate places that give off that warm, comforting feeling of being a part of a community.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
It might not be the answer you expect, but the truth is, my clients are the ones who inspire me every day to keep doing what I love and grow my business. I’ve always been a dreamer, and I often bounce ideas off my clients during our sessions—after all, I’m seeing some of them four or five times a week. I believe the key is surrounding yourself with a circle of people who support and motivate you, like fashion PR queen Lori Riviere, who first introduced me to Pilates nearly a decade ago, and my dear friend, Alexandra Richter, who was one of my very first clients as a solopreneur. When it comes to bringing clients into the Peachy Pilates community, I’m very selective. I choose to work with people I truly connect with—those who will allow me to make the kind of impact in their lives that Pilates can offer.
