We had the good fortune of connecting with Vanessa Torres and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Vanessa, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
“To be honest, the idea for my business kind of bubbled up over time. I was working in the media industry, and while I loved the work, I started to feel this disconnect. It felt like there was a lot of noise and not enough room for genuine creativity. I always loved telling stories, whether it was through writing, photography, or just having a good conversation. So, I started thinking, ‘Why not try to create a space where stories can really shine?’ It felt like the natural next step for me.”

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
“My career path has definitely been unconventional. I started out studying online, which wasn’t always taken as seriously back then. So, I felt like I had to work twice as hard to prove myself and earn my place. It was a long, winding road, and there were definitely times when I felt like I was hitting a wall. But I kept pushing forward, learning from my mistakes, and adapting to the changing landscape. I’m still constantly evolving and learning, but I’m proud of how far I’ve come and excited about what the future holds.”

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
“If my best friend was visiting, we’d hit the beach in San Pedro, catch a show at the Kia Forum, stroll the Long Beach Pier, dance the night away at La Boom, and enjoy live music at Leonardo’s. We’d definitely need tacos from El Guero’s and ice cream at Bumsan. For a change of pace, we’d hike in the Azusa Mountains. And of course, we’d have to experience the LA nightlife scene with some line dancing.”

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
“If I had to give a shoutout, it would undoubtedly go to my mentor, Charlie Kratovil. Back when I was a journalist just starting my career, & navigating life in New Jersey, feeling a bit lost, Charlie was the one who truly ignited my passion for storytelling. He instilled in me the importance of investigative journalism, encouraging me to be bold and unapologetic in my pursuit of truth. Charlie’s guidance was instrumental in shaping my career path and, ultimately, in giving me what I needed on my journey.”
