We had the good fortune of connecting with Dana Austin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dana, as a parent, what do you feel is the most meaningful thing you’ve done for them?
I have modeled a strong work ethic and shown that drive and determination will take you where you need to go. As children of divorced parents who have gone through major financial challenges I have proven that you can get through anything and it will only make you more nibble and stronger in the end. I have shown them failure is only a really great learning lesson and that defeat is not an option. I love to inspire them to be the very best at everything they do and to always follow your passion and dreams. The move back to L.A. in my 50’s was a huge leap of faith and has taken a few twists and turns that have been challenging. I am still figuring out these challenges and I am enjoying the process because challenges bring progress and growth. I love the quote “Diamonds are only made under extreme pressure and I am one sparkly girl. “!

I love helping people create wealth and stability through real estate. It is my honor to take people’s goals and make them a reality. It sounds cliche but I simply love being of service to my clients whether it is a first-time home, selling a family house, upgrading, downsizing, or a simple 1031 exchange investment. I get so much joy learning I was involved in providing safe havens and equity builders for years to come. My favorite time is when I get to work with them for the 2,3,4th time because I earned their trust. I have been helping people for 26 years and enjoy lifelong friendships with this very personal task of finding them their home. When selling I get to utilize my creative marketing angles, and my sophisticated marketing strategy to ensure top dollar is gotten!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I am a foodie and a thrift store junkie so we would go to Republique for Brunch and Bestia or Saffy’s for dinner then get coffee at Pam’s Cofy in Silverlake then hit the Loz Feliz and Silverlake vintage shops then go to Pasadena and hit the thrifts their and Eagle Rock. Stop by Bub’s and Grandma’s for a quick sando. Maybe a quick hike in Runyun or a game of tennis in Griffith Park. The next day we would hit Gjusta in Venice for Brunch then head down to the boardwalk and rent some bikes and go rolling if it was a Sunday we would have drinks at Belle’s Beach then hit the Venice Electric bike parade on the boardwalk. Play some street paddle then go to Hinanu’s for a burger.I also love a beach day at 3rd Point Malibu surfing then hitting Malibu mutt for a falafel and sunlife for a juice and stroll around the Colony shops.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Shoutout to my Father Van Austin: He was the best diving coach Southern California has ever seen and a Marketing Genius who ran his advertising agency. He pushed me in diving, and that tenacity gave me the confidence to know and do ANYTHING I set my mind on doing. He was an Olympic diving coach. I dived all my life, took first place in the state championships, etc. He coached Olympians and was the coach of many items including UCLA, CSUN, and the Rose Bowl Aquatics Center. Growing up I hated diving but as an adult, I learned the approach leading to the performance of a dive could be used as a metifore for walking into a job interview, a sales pitch or a public speaking event which I have successfully done in all my career life. so the approach was the prelude to my success! The other cool thing he did was he was a creative outside-of-the-box thinker when it came to marketing and advertising this has serviced me well in my business acumen.
