Meet Caitlin Alyn

We had the good fortune of connecting with Caitlin Alyn and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Caitlin, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I pursued the arts because it was really the only thing that could ever hold my attention. I had grown up watching my dad go to a job every morning that he didn’t enjoy and I remember thinking to myself “I never want that to happen to me.” I knew if I was going to be spending so much time of my life working, I better enjoy what I do. And I’ve always enjoyed storytelling and sharing my imagination with others.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Currently im focusing my energy on standup comedy and content creating. I think what’s set me up for success has been my social media literacy. I started my career running the Laugh Factory’s Instagram page back in 2018 and now I’m Director of Video at a PR agency making TikToks for big brands. And that’s just my day job; social media has also been my way in for live performing as well. This year I had a standup clip go viral at 29 million views and was able to leverage that to grow my following by 800%. It hasn’t been hard, per se, but it has taken me a long time with many setbacks to get here… and I still have a long way to go. One of the major lessons I’ve learned while working for other brands and artists is engaging with the community is very important. Seeing what people are saying and how they’re saying it is critical to stay current, relevant, and fresh.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
This is tough because I always design my itinerary based on the individual. I’m an active girlie so I love doing a hike up to Griffith observatory and then grabbing a coffee at Obet & Del’s. I live on the east side so I’d probably recommend grabbing food at Forage, maybe a bottle of wine at Covell. If we still have energy would love to go line dancing at Desert 5 Spot and then brunch the next day at Bacari Silverlake. I also love seeing what’s playing at the Vista!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My success as an artist and creative all started with training and education for UNC School of the Arts where I got my BFA. There, I was mentored by successful filmmakers and had access to films that I’d never even heard of before. It was like being a kid in a candy shop, only my sweet tooth was visual storytelling.
