Meet Viet Pham | Freelancer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Viet Pham and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Viet, what do you think makes you most happy? Why?
Drawing makes me happy. Every day, I have the opportunity to create something new, different from the day before. It keeps my life from feeling repetitive, and working on commissions with people’s unique ideas makes it even more enjoyable.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’ve always been captivated by genres like fantasy and science fiction, drawing inspiration from my love of manga, anime, and games. I think what sets me apart is my passion for worldbuilding. I love creating the concept of a world—designing environments, crafting characters that interact within them, and shaping the stories that unfold there. Worldbuilding is fascinating to me because it allows for the creation of places and ideas that don’t exist in real life.
When I was in school, I landed a job as an environment designer at RadCat Design. At first, drawing environments was challenging, but as my passion grew, it became easier over time. I also had to learn how to work smarter to meet deadlines. During my second year of art school, I had to draw everything manually, but after learning 3D modeling, I can now design environments and bring my visions to life much faster.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Robert Atkins. He’s a professor at Savannah College of Art and Design. Art Director at Radcat Design. Artist of GI Joe,Marvel Comics, Co-Creator of Elders of the RuneStone! He has helped me improved a lot in my time in SCAD. He’s the one who make what kind of artists I am today. He always inspired his students and make his class always fun despite dealing with deadlines and challenges along the way.
