Meet Sarah Thompson | Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Sarah Thompson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sarah, what do you want people to remember about you?
I hope people remember my dedication to social justice, how even though I’m a quiet person for the most part, I can get loud with my opinions. I hope to be remembered as someone who could be depended on to always show up for others!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m still very much working towards where I want to be as an artist. The work isn’t always consistent, so I do what I think a lot of us artists do in LA which is work several jobs. It’s definitely not easy, but I’m very gradually getting more and more work as a photographer and illustrator, and I feel hopeful I’m on the right trajectory. Building a portfolio and making connections takes time!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The list of things to do in LA is truly endless, I love it here so much. I’d try to give them a mix of things I do regularly, like hiking Runyon and going out somewhere in my neighborhood. Then for a little touristy day maybe grabbing a coffee and wandering Angelina Heights in the morning, then stopping in Griffith park, eating at the original farmers market, then ending the day with a movie at Cinespia.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I discovered the works of Maira Kalman as a teenager and immediately fell in love. Her pairings of illustrations with diary like written passages inspired me to do the same, even though our styles are completely different.
