Meet Vidhya Ganesh | Owner and Instructor of Kumon’ Math and Reading center of Thousand Oaks North

We had the good fortune of connecting with Vidhya Ganesh and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Vidhya, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My passion for working with students truly blossomed during my time volunteering in the reading program at my children’s school. Witnessing the gratitude each child had for the simple opportunity to hear stories read aloud was incredibly fulfilling, and it solidified my love for working with children and being involved in education. Additionally, my background in finance and my long-held aspiration to be my own boss played a significant role in this decision. By becoming an owner and instructor, I am able to combine these passions and achieve my entrepreneurial goals.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
As an instructor at Kumon of Thousand Oaks North, I am dedicated to promoting personalized education, enabling each student to achieve their maximum capabilities. My enthusiasm for education, coupled with a desire to assist children in reaching both their academic and personal objectives, sparked my career in this sector. I have provided below a summary of my business, detailing its distinguishing attributes, difficulties encountered, and the insights acquired during my tenure.
What Distinguishes Us:
* Individualized Attention: Every student benefits from tailored advice designed to match their academic level and rate of learning.
* Flexible Hours: Morning sessions are available to accommodate homeschooling families and young students, guaranteeing inclusivity for diverse requirements.
* Parental Involvement: Routine meetings with parents facilitate the alignment of teaching strategies with the development of their children.
* Self-Paced Learning: Students advance through the curriculum at a comfortable speed, mastering foundational concepts before progressing further.
These features foster a supportive atmosphere where students may develop self-assurance, autonomy, and a robust academic base.
Operating this business has been incredibly fulfilling, and has taught us a lot.
Insights Acquired:
* Adaptability: Adjusting schedules and curriculum to cater to a wide array of requirements is crucial.
* Collaboration: Establishing alliances with educational facilities enhances the support framework for students.
* Persistence: Motivating students to maintain effort cultivates perseverance that extends beyond their scholastic endeavors.
To surmount these obstacles, I broadened our offerings to encompass early learning programs tailored for pre-kindergarten students and those who are homeschooled. Furthermore, forming alliances with educational institutions and educators within the community has proven crucial in bridging educational disparities and bolstering students’ self-esteem.
Our Narrative:
My involvement as a Kumon teacher started after witnessing firsthand the positive effects of the Kumon Method on my own children. Building upon my background in finance and my years of volunteer experience in schools, I transitioned into education with the aim of significantly influencing the lives of young learners. Currently, I take great pride in delivering an environment where students can excel academically while also gaining crucial life skills such as self-discipline, effective time management, and determination.
Our Message to the World:
Kumon of Thousand Oaks North transcends the conventional role of an educational institution; it embodies a community devoted to aiding children in realizing their complete capabilities through tailored education. By emphasizing proficiency, autonomy, and teamwork, our objective is to prepare students for sustained achievement in all aspects of life.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If I were showing someone around Los Angeles, I would recommend visiting Hollywood Studios, Disneyland, Griffith Park, Griffith Observatory, the local Hindu temples, Venice Beach, and Santa Monica Pier.
For a delicious meal, I highly recommend my favorite restaurant, Vegan Thyme, in Newbury Park.
