Meet Nadia Geller | Principal and Owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Nadia Geller and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nadia, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Starting Nadia Geller Designs was a truly exciting and eye-opening experience. In 2003, I was immersed in various projects within the interior design field when an unexpected opportunity to submit a proposal for a large-scale project came my way—and I ended up landing the job.
At that point, I turned to dear friends and family who had started their own businesses to learn from their experiences and gather advice. The most crucial piece of advice I received was that if I was going to do this, I needed to lay a solid foundation and ensure the business was set up properly from the beginning.
This involved hiring a team to handle all the necessary paperwork for state and federal compliance, determining the right business structure, drafting a business plan, and developing key documents like contracts, proposals, and invoicing protocols. I also needed to hire staff and create an employee handbook, among other critical tasks.
It was a lot of work, but after spending years working for others, I was thrilled by the prospect of building something of my own. Being able to work for myself and serve my clients was incredibly fulfilling, and it made every step of the process worthwhile.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I see my art as a dynamic collage—a fusion of space, color, texture, and materials that come together to create something truly unique. For me, the design process begins with the blank canvas of an empty room. I thrive on the challenge of collaborating with my team and clients, crafting solutions that are not only visually stunning but feel incredible to experience.
What sets me apart as an interior designer is my passion, energy, and the ability to truly listen. I believe that a space should not only look beautiful but should also resonate with its inhabitants on a deeper level. My home and studio are my sanctuaries, and it brings me joy to offer that same warmth and comfort to my clients.
My journey has been shaped by a relentless curiosity, a strong work ethic, and the courage to take bold steps. Growing up in Chicago and later moving to New York City in my early 20s, I combined my Midwestern work ethic with the fast-paced hustle of NYC. This blend earned me a reputation not just for my talent, but for my reliability, punctuality, and unwavering commitment to excellence in every project.
Professional and personal growth requires constant effort, and though I don’t always get it right, I approach challenges with an open mind. I seek out perspectives, ask for help, and remain adaptable—because I’ve learned that the best solutions often come from collaboration. As my firm has grown, I’ve come to understand the importance of surrounding myself with people who are as talented—if not more talented—than I am. Building a strong team is essential, and it’s something I take great pride in.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Our perfect day would begin with a restful night’s sleep, followed by an amazing breakfast at Sunrose California Eatery in Agoura Hills. Then, we’d unwind with a relaxing visit to a Korean spa for a scrub and a massage. After that, we’d make our way to LACMA to take in some art. A scenic hike with a beautiful view would be the perfect way to stretch our legs, and we’d end the day with a delicious dinner at Nobu Malibu.
I absolutely love LA. This city is full of hidden gems, with fascinating people and places around every corner. That said, I do have a special place in my heart for Laurel Canyon and Topanga Canyon—they hold a certain magic that’s hard to beat.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Skye Kirby Westcott; she was my first boss in the design world and took a chance on me.
