Hi McKenna, other than deciding to work for yourself, what else do you think played a pivotal role in your story?
The single most important decision I made that contributed to my success was choosing to lead with love and passion. Any profession can be exhausting and stressful, but in my industry, success isn’t just about skill or experience—it’s about genuinely loving the work. I’ve learned that you can’t fake passion, and when challenges arise, I remind myself why I started. The trust my clients place in me is the greatest honor, and keeping that at the forefront fuels my dedication. Leading with love and passion has been the foundation of my success, and it’s what continues to drive me forward.

Events by McKenna is a premier event planning company dedicated to creating beautifully curated and seamlessly executed weddings and special occasions. Founded by McKenna Folmar, a passionate planner and published author, the company specializes in transforming dreams into reality with meticulous attention to detail, creative vision, and heartfelt care. Whether designing an intimate gathering or a grand celebration, Events by McKenna is committed to crafting unforgettable experiences that reflect each client’s unique love story and style.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Whenever Spencer and I find ourselves with a free Sunday afternoon, we make a beeline for the Smokehouse brunch in Burbank. It’s our little haven—warm, inviting, and absolutely delicious, with the added bonus of bottomless mimosas. There’s something special about sharing that time together, just the three of us, savoring great food and soaking in the cozy atmosphere. It’s our way of pressing pause, resetting as a family, and recharging before the whirlwind of a new week begins.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My shoutout goes to my husband, Spencer Folmar—my greatest love, my best friend, and my unwavering source of support. Through every adventure, challenge, and triumph, he’s the one who stands by my side, believing in me even when I forget to believe in myself.
