We had the good fortune of connecting with Samantha and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Samantha, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
Between working full-time and being in a band full-time, sometimes it can feel non-stop. The reason I work a regular 8-5 job is to have the financial means and flexibility to invest in our music. I balance these things by only playing gigs I deem worthwhile and by using my weekends, holidays, time off effectively.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I started my band, Dead by Sunday, in 2019 with my guitarist Alex Chubb. We didn’t actively start playing live shows until 2021 (post pandemic). During the pandemic, we turned our garage into makeshift recording studio by nailing mattress toppers to the walls and gathering all the equipment we needed. Most of our equipment was old but came for free. We did some of our greatest writing and growing in this garage. Looking back, we could’ve made a million excuses as to why we couldn’t write or practice but we’ve always worked hard to make sure that nothing gets in our way. I realize now that making music isn’t a choice it’s a necessity for us. Our music is sincere, raw, and vulnerable. All of the music we have released currently (Vicious Cycle, Ouroboros, The End, SINNER, 333) was recorded in that garage.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take them to The Lodge Room in Highland Park LA for dinner at Checker Hall and to catch a great show. After that, I would take them to Highland Park Bowl to crush them in a game of pool. I would also take them to 4100 to people watch and crush them again in a game of pool. I love LA and I love to play pool.
