Meet Hailey Swartz | Co-Founder of Actual Veggies

We had the good fortune of connecting with Hailey Swartz and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Hailey, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
I think first, we did have a really good idea. In 2020 when we started Actual Veggies, everyone else was focusing on making plant-based meat that tasted like meat. We realized that 1- it was not healthy for you and 2- people didn’t want their veggie option to taste like meat. We focused on making a really, really good veggie burger, one that tasted like veggies and felt restaurant style. As the backlash on plant- based started and people starting caring about real, whole ingredients, Actual Veggies was a perfectly position option.

Secondly, having the right people around you. Those who are not afraid of making progress, but also have calculated risk. It is important to actually execute versus trying to be perfect. It is really easy to be theoretical and obsess about the right way to do something, but sometimes you just need to do. I think having cofounders is key in moving a process forward.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am one of the founders of Actual Veggies. We make chef crafted veggie burgers and fries that celebrate the veggies in them. We launched in 2021 are now in over 7000 retail doors including Whole Foods, Sprouts, Albertsons and Kroger.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My brother is one of my cofounders and it is really special knowing that I can always count on him both personally and professionally. If he is part of the process I am not worried about something getting done. As we have worked together it has been really cool to see how we align on values and approach to making decisions.
