We had the good fortune of connecting with Yuno Imai and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Yuno, what habits do you feel play an important role in your life?
There are two main habits that helped me get where I am today – staying motivated and being productive. As a writer and author, I spend a lot of my time alone. Keeping myself motivated help me get focused and stay on track.
I make a point to review written goals to remind myself of where I’m headed. I also turn to music, films, yoga, reading inspiring stories or petting my cat for a little motivation pick-me-up. I believe in working “smart” and there is a difference between being busy and being productive. It’s easy to waste time on miscellaneous tasks and feel like you had a long, busy day, but that doesn’t mean you accomplished something meaningful. I often ask myself, “am I just being busy or being productive?” Being productive can always get you closer to your goals 🙂 As with any entrepreneurs or creators, so-called success is built on daily routines and many habits. Aside from staying motivated and being productive, I practice positive thinking, have a good discipline, always have a smile on my face, pay full attention while talking to someone, and I’m VERY organized. Hope you can find one that works for you and make it part of who you are becoming!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m a children’s book author and write heartwarming stories about death and difficult subjects. My topics are unconventional, like dying, reincarnation, and death row, etc. I love it when my readers tell me they cried after reading my books or share their special stories or signs of their loved ones. Though I’m an experienced writer, I’m quite new to the publishing industry. I’m learning and implement ideas everyday. My goal is always to inspire or entertain readers. I feel like I was able to provide a service through my books if my readers could have a sense of closure, start a difficult conversation with their children or cultivate compassion towards someone they could never relate to.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my parents, for letting me go. I was only 17 years old when I left Japan. I’ve never traveled abroad alone and spoke no English back then. Any parents in our situation would be worried to death. So I’m grateful for my parents for “unwillingly” letting me go and gave me an opportunity to make my own future.
