Meet Doseinomi & Satsuki | Artists

We had the good fortune of connecting with Doseinomi & Satsuki and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Doseinomi, do you have some perspective or insight you can share with us on the question of when someone should give up versus when they should keep going?
We would say, “if you don’t believe in it, it’s probably time to move on.” Your business is something you created, so if you don’t believe it, how can you expect anyone else to?
There’re times when we would doubt our work, but we created the art piece, it’s something we have in our minds, and we’re trying to make it a reality to show the world. Human minds are intricate, showing an idea we have is not easy, so we don’t expect it come out perfect the first time, if we still believe in it, we will keep going.
It’s okay to put the project aside, take a breather, work on something new, then get back to it.
This goes with the business too, BxB is our studio, our gallery, it’s a place, and our place is like one big ongoing project, we remodel it sometimes, and under this project, there are a few little projects (our art). As long as we believe, we will keep going.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’ve been drawing and doodling for about as long as I can remember, but started taking it more seriously in high school; taking commissions and chatting in artist circles online to improve my skills. I was really inspired mostly by American cartoons, Japanese animation, “oekaki” style art and web animation. I really wanted to enter the animation industry, so with the help of my parents pursued and completed a Bachelor’s in Fine Art from CSU Fullerton in 2023. But while I enjoyed my time and the valuable lessons from my education, the industry isn’t what is was 5 years ago when I joined and I wasn’t able to find employment coming out of school like I’d hoped. It was a bitter pill to swallow, but I still love art, and I love creating. My partner was the biggest proponent for us starting our own business, and after much convincing on her part I got onboard and we started attending shows and markets in late 2023/early 2024. Its a lot of work managing a full time work schedule, keeping track of inventory, social media presence, AND actually attending in person shows but together we make it work. While we’re still far from perfect, we’ve learned coordination & communication are they keys to getting everything ran smoothly.

This might sound a little too self-centered, but I’m thankful on what have been happening in my life, and how I have taken actions and made the choices that have lead me where I am now. Because of my grandpa, I fell in love with art at an early age. Because of my parents, I get to study art under the US educational system. Because of my desire on proving my mom that I won’t be an artist who will only make money after their death, I started to take my first steps to sell my work. Last but not least, because of a traumatic experience working for someone, I learned I have to trust myself, and do what’s best for me.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I think most people focusing on well known places like Disneyland, or Universal Studios; although they’re fun and interesting places to visit, we would probably recommend our friends to go to some places with rich history behind them: we would spend a day or two in LA, go to China town in the morning for a little stroll, then to Marugame Monzo for some unforgettable udon in Little Tokyo, and just walk around the area for a bit. If they don’t mind a bit of the drive, we would go to the Griffith Observatory for the best view in LA. Afterwards, we can go for a cute swan boat date at the EchoPark, then we can go to the Angels Flight Railway for a little unique experience, then drive by the famous Cecil Hotel to respectfully admire the building, and stop by The Last Bookstore, where we can find cool art and displays in there, then we’ll end the day with enjoying a great French Dip in the atmosphere of a speakeasy from Cole’s. This can be packed into one very busy day, or 2-3 relaxing days trip.
Then we’ll go to OC for the oceans, Dana Point have some beautiful beaches, they’re romantic-date type of beaches, they’re great for morning walks and evening stroll, we would start the day on one of the beaches there. After brunch, we’ll go on that eye catching “Big Orange” for a hot air balloon ride at the Great Park, and then we can take the train to drive… wait, we meant, we can drive to take a little train at the Orange County Model Engineers. Afterwards, we would go to Long Beach for the Aquarium Of The Pacific, where we can learn, protect, and even connect with some sea lives. Then we’ll go to see the famous Queen Mary. We can end the day with having dinner at Anaheim Packing District; where we each get different kinds of food from different types of restaurants.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I wanted to shoutout my friends and family, especially my parents, for their unwavering support of both myself, my art, and my efforts to make a living off of it.

I would like to thank my family and friends who complimented my work, and told me “you can do it!”; they gave me the motivation and confidence I needed to make our dream a reality.
