We had the good fortune of connecting with JD/ Jennifer Daranyi and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi JD/ Jennifer, why did you pursue a creative career?
Being able to do gymnastics and dance and taekwondo growing up I had a taste of the creative side of life + and then wanted to stick with it, but have a career that had a little more longevity than a dancer who back then retired in their early 20’s.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
At 21 I landed my first big job working in Lithuania on the new adventures of Robin Hood for five months. when I came back I helped Friends out on other shows that I was able to build my days to join the union. What set me apart is my ability to be creative and know the craft + also see the productions point of view of being efficient and not costing them anymore, money by having a speedy way of doing make up and understanding the producers aspect of their main goal as well.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My mom deserves credit first + foremost for keeping me in dance and acting classes, taekwondo, gymnastics, swimming that helped me develop a wide range of different people to be around and to fit in with. I was dancing with Julio O’Connell in North Hollywood at Debbie Reynolds Studios when I became friends with Christina Applegate in class, whose mom took me under her wing, took me to all my dance classes and acting classes and we had sleepovers, and she was really my inspiration to be better and do better and stay really focused without being sidetracked with pre teen social noise. Then as I was going to makeup school @19 years old at Elegance Academy of Prof. makeup I had a side job at a Finnish massage spa as a receptionist on days off from school.
That’s where I met an Icelandic masseuse who wore a Madonna tour concert shirt from the Japan show and told me a friend of his husband produced that show + she too was a makeup artist originally from Iceland named Heba Thoriddottir
who also helped guide me and aided me in the direction of my career and brought me on as her assistant for many jobs.
