We had the good fortune of connecting with Magda Fialek and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Magda, what is the most important factor behind your success?
I think the most important factor behind my success is always trying to give the best experience/service/product to my clients. My clients and customers put a lot of faith in me to create something for them, teach them a skill, bring them joy – I am very grateful for that. I do my best to establish a relationship with my clients to ensure that they always get what they came for and more. My clients are the reason I am in business and so giving them value is the absolute least I can do and at the end of the day it is my great pleasure to be able to serve them!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
As a ballroom dancer growing up in the competitive ballroom circuit, whenever I was asked this question I would always lead with my results and the highest rankings that I worked so hard for. And while I am still incredibly proud of those accomplishments, I am so excited and grateful that that work has lent itself and carried over into the professional world and I am now able to dance for a living. Competing definitely taught me a lot and gave me a backbone to be able to hang through tough times and know that everything can get better if you put in the work and go back to the drawing board when things don’t work out. It taught me to get clear on goals and to work toward them relentlessly. It taught me to believe in my dreams and to persevere even when those dreams seemed impossible. Being your own brand is not a linear undertaking and there are definitely highs, lows and inbetweens, but thats what makes running your own business so beautiful. I am so happy to bring joy to the world through dance in multiple facets – whether it be through teaching, choreographing or my life long love – performing.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
This is such a good question because as a transplant to this city I am constantly looking for things to do that are new to me. By far one of the best things in this city that I haven’t encountered everywhere are the multitude of amazing thai massage parlours – I would definitely tie one of those into our itinerary. So let’s say we start out near my area at the Garden cafe. It’s a great little spot where you can enjoy the great weather on the patio or hide out inside if you prefer. Great food, great ambiance. I would definitely take them to dinner at Uovo, where there will almost surely be a wait so we’d head to the little wine bar next door Cosette while we wait. Speaking of wine – Malibu Wine and Beer Garden is another must visit. Gorgeous when the weather is pleasant, which luckily is almost always! Live music, cute little globe lights. We would definitely visit the Thai temple for some thai food during their thai market. And then of course take a hike, there’s nothing more LA than that. I don’t have a favourite hiking spot, I’m happy to walk anywhere so I’d probably opt to show them the Hollywood sign!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My mom definitely deserves credit. Moms really are the stars in our stories and mine is no different. I am very grateful and lucky that she poured herself into my dance education and took me to the classes, made my dresses throughout my competitive career, really dedicated herself to my success. I owe a lot to her and could never thank her enough.
