We had the good fortune of connecting with Christina and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Christina, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
From childhood, I’ve always identified as a creative individual. My dad played a significant role in nurturing this side of me, crafting costumes and outfits for special events when I was younger, a tradition he continues to this day. Seeing the joy his creative outlet brought him was truly inspiring. While I didn’t excel in other academic areas, anything that sparked my imagination always captivated me.

I chose to pursue an artistic career to challenge my capabilities, exploring new artistic mediums and honing my drawing skills. Currently, I’m in a place where it’s challenging to find that initial ‘spark’ and achieve success in my specific skill set. However, I believe that consistently creating will help build my confidence and improve my mental well-being.

After grad school, I experienced burnout and a lack of inspiration, leading me to set aside art and focus solely on work. Now, my primary goal is to reignite my creative passion, hoping to satisfy a deeper need within myself and also to invite everyone to come along this fun journey with me!

My art can range from so many things from making fun accessories for costumes, drawing in different styles, making sculptural projects, and creating fun illustration work!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’d like to believe that most starting out artists have the will to create, but has trouble to actually do it because of so many negative factors from, low confidence in your work, feeling uninspired, and burnout. I had trouble creating because of all these factors and eventually I realized that my mental state was not the greatest. I could create whatever I wanted for others, but when it came to making art for myself I struggled with not knowing what to do. I would buy so many art supplies in hopes that I would create something… and then nothing! It felt overwhelming.

I had quit my job and have been struggling to find work in my particular field, so while I’m job hunting, I figured maybe it was time to invest in myself a little bit. I rebranded my TikTok channel from a personal aspect to a public one! It is the most fun and time consuming thing I have ever done! I told myself that I had a masters degree and I’m really great at storytelling and having fun making things! I feel that others would enjoy my crazy little artistic mind go to work.

I found being consistent is the hardest part of tiktok. You really don’t know what will go viral and even timing plays a factor in it as well. I’ve tried other platforms and I found that tiktok was easier for me. I don’t have a particular niche, but I like to have fun making things and interacting with my followers! I found so much joy in just getting to know everyone.

I’ve learned you really just need to have the will to push forward. I’m still learning and I find new things to be happier about, and it starts with making things no matter how small.

Right now, my main goal is to use all of the art supplies I have accumulated throughout the years to declutter and sell!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love this question! I love experiencing new places and food! My favorite time to show anyone a fantastic time is either to Universal Studios Hollywood or the Renaissance Pleasure Faire in Irwindale! For USH it’s more about the fun character meet and greets while also enjoying the rides. I love showing them around the park and it’s just a great atmosphere! As for the Renfaire, that is probably the best place to take anyone who has a creative soul! You can socialize and look around vendor booths and really transport yourself to historical times!

As for food places, Boiling Pot and Boba Street in Northridge is my favorite “hot pot” place as well as Sri Siam Cafe in Noho!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have so many who have pushed me to pursue art in a fun and exciting way and I’d like to Shout out my sister and family who have always supported me, and from my friend group, Vanessa and her family for letting me help them out every year for Halloween to make some props, Mahdy and Lindsey for helping me boost my confidence and believing in me and Amy Zapata who has been a wonderful friend throughout all of grad school and after and recommending me to Shoutout!
