Meet David Martinez | Craft Bartender & Experience curator

We had the good fortune of connecting with David Martinez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi David, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
That’s a great question. To be honest, I’ve been a consumer and enthusiast for a long time — but about four years ago, I started looking at bartending as more than just drinks. I began to see it as an art form. That shift in mindset sparked a deep curiosity in me, and I dove into learning everything I could. I’m still learning, but at one point I realized it was time to take a leap of faith.
There was definitely hesitation at first — a lot of uncertainty and questions about whether I was ready. But I knew that if I was going to do this, I wanted to do it right. I took time to prepare, to understand what running a business really involves, especially behind the scenes. It’s not easy work, but I was ready to go all in.
Since that first event, I haven’t looked back. What started as a passion has turned into something much bigger, and I’m proud of how far we’ve come — without cutting corners and with a real commitment to the craft.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Man, these questions keep getting better! What sets us apart is the attention we give to the little things — the details that most people might overlook. We have a real eye for the craft, from how cocktails are built and garnished to how the setup should look and feel. But beyond that, we bring the energy. The vibes. The charisma. We’re not just bartending — we’re creating an experience.
We believe deeply in the importance of celebrating life’s special moments — being surrounded by family, friends, good music, and great cocktails. When people come together for birthdays, weddings, or any type of celebration, those memories matter. That’s why we take representing those events seriously — who you hire to be part of that moment makes a difference.
I’m proud of how far we’ve come in just the past two years. We’ve done a lot in a short amount of time, and I truly believe it’s because we pour so much care, effort, and love into every event and every cocktail. Has it been easy? Not at all. If anything, it gets harder the more we grow — but I wouldn’t have it any other way. There’s a lot of behind-the-scenes work that people don’t always see, but that’s part of what makes this journey real.
The biggest lesson I’ve learned? Lead with passion. If you do it for the love of the craft, the success will follow. And I want the world to know that we are extremely grateful — to every single person who thinks of us when they think of bartending. That trust means everything to us.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Oh, that’s a good one — because on my days off, I definitely love a good night out in the heart of Downey. So here’s how I’d show my best friend an unforgettable time, Downey-style:
We’d kick things off at Xecora to visit our friend Jess. We’d start the night with her signature Espresso Martini — with tequila, of course. The appetizers there are fire, so we’d snack, sip, and ease into the vibe.
Next, we’d walk over to The Green Olive to catch Jerry behind the bar and try one of their amazing craft cocktails. Since it’s right around the corner, it’s an easy move. After that, we’d head just a few steps away to Bar Louie to visit Edwin. If we’re lucky, we’ll catch him showing off his flaring skills.
If we’re feeling the energy and want some live Spanish music, we’d make our way to Mambo Bar & Grill to link up with Memo and catch a set from Grupo Ibarra. The vibe is always right, and Memo’s classic Paloma — made with your tequila of choice — hits every time.
To close the night, we’d slide next door to Avenue Pizza for a slice and a cold beer. It’s the perfect way to wind down a solid night in the city.
But honestly, that’s just one version of the night. There are so many great spots within walking distance, each offering something different. Places like Kudos (Kudowl), where Birdie and her team are crafting insane cocktails that always surprise you. Or Lock & Key, Bella Lounge, Mandala, and Kelly’s — where it’s basically St. Patrick’s Day all year round. Whether you’re in the mood to chill or turn up, there’s a spot with your vibe just minutes away.
Downey’s bar scene is full of character, creativity, and community — that’s what makes nights out here so special.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Wow, that’s a big one — because honestly, while it hasn’t been a huge circle, the people who have supported me truly made an impact.
First and foremost, a huge shoutout to every single person who has ever booked me — and continues to book me. That trust means everything. It’s because of you that we’re able to grow and keep doing what we love. I especially want to thank my Newport/Irvine crew — your support has brought so much exposure. I love doing events for you and seeing how many times I get rebooked by your guests. That means a lot.
Second, a massive thank you to anyone who believed in us enough to refer us or recommend our services — that kind of word-of-mouth support is priceless. Special thanks to the Dream Team: The Lead Bartender El Memo, Emily from Tapia Fuego, Edwin, Lennis, Shai, Jessica, Adri, Kenny the Guest, Marquis, Nick (my brother), and my best friend Hector, who’s helped with edits and more. It really does take a village. Everyone who has helped behind the scenes in even the smallest way — thank you for believing in the brand and where we’re headed.
And lastly, to anyone who’s followed our journey on social media — who’s liked, shared, or commented — those small actions make a big difference. Your support never goes unnoticed.
