Meet Roderick Davis | Self taught baker & Entertainer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Roderick Davis and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Roderick, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My thought process behind starting my business, was to build a legacy for my family, create another viable stream of income, and teach myself a new skill, in a field I knew nothing about.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My Cookie business, is simply an extension of my creativity. I’m a foodie, and one of my weaknesses is a fresh, homemade cookie. I got the idea to start a cookie business, one night while at a friends house. We both wanted something sweet, and it was too late to order anything, or go to the store. All my friend had was, flour, sugar, butter and eggs. I said, “I can make sugar cookies”. I was given a look of intrigue from my friend, and I got to work. To our surprise, the cookies turned out great, on my first attempt, and I said, “I could sell these”, and Rich Cookie Man Co. was born. That was about eight months ago, and I’m now shipping cookies across the country, taking orders weekly, and being booked for both private and corporate events. What sets my cookies apart from your average Cookie, is my attention to detail, and only using high quality ingredients. In this fast paced world, I wanted my cookies to feel like a mini vacation. My cookies stop you dead in your tracks, with a unique and rich flavor profile, that’s unexpected and memorable. My cookies are decadent, addictive and guaranteed to keep you wanting more. I’ve learned so much about myself and how to separate business from personal, and to be very careful who I tell my ideas to, and to always trust my gut.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If I had a friend visiting L.A for a week here are some places and things I’d suggest for us.
Coffee- Hilltop Cafe and Sip and Sonder both in Inglewood
Runyon Canyon or Culver City stairs, for a hike and great views of the city
Six Flags Magic Mountain, the biggest and best in the Six Flags chain
LOST bar, for good vibes, great drinks and beautiful people
Shopping on Melrose
Tev’s kitchen for great Caribbean soul food
Sushi Dan in Studio City
Take in a concert at the SoFi stadium or the Hollywoodball

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to dedicate this Shoutout to all the incredible women in my family. Those both alive, and those that have passed on. They are without a doubt, some of the best cooks I’ve ever known. Their love, support and dedication to their families, is what lives in and drives me, to reach for new and unseen heights.
