We had the good fortune of connecting with Diego Everett and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Diego, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
I feel my business helps the community by providing a service to all fans of pop culture who want to represent their fandom through tee shirts and other kinds of merchandise that showcase their favorite characters, movies or shows done in all original designs by a real artist.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I believe what sets me apart from other artist is that my art style is a mix of realism, comic book style and cartoonist, I am influenced by the works of realism artist like Alex Ross, western comic book styles like the art of Greg Capullo and Jim Lee. I am still learning though and adapting other styles of art like the eastern art style of artist Yoji Shinkawa which is a bit of an evolution of the Japanese Sumi-E art style. As I continue my art journey, I am most proud of the more realistic detailed pieces I made that were digitally painted and have this textured look that makes them look like I painted them using a real paint brush on actual canvas, I use a custom brush I downloaded for photoshop in order to achieve this look, these kind of pieces tend to have a more realistic look to them as appose to the more comic book sketch style I use on other pieces. Since I tend to make a lot of art based on pop culture IPs such as Star Wars, horror movies, comic book characters and things of that nature, I thought it would be a good idea to upload my art to Teepublic.com. So, in 2016 I began to upload my art designs to their website which is a merchandise platform that provides various types of designs done by independent artist to be sold on their site. At first I didn’t sell much, but about 6 months in, I began to slowly start selling designs, some of my Batman pieces were really popular and also my Michael Jackson Thriller designs have sold quite well on there, this began to give me confidence that my artwork was sellable and marketable to the community of people that love wearing merchandise that lets them identify with their fandom. Now that I have enjoyed a little bit of success on Teepublic.com, I want to dip my toes into cons and expos, that is my next challenge, I want to personally meet the people that are interested in my art and make a connection with them, I believe that’s important when you’re an artist that makes art for the people, the fans and the community. I’ve noticed that some artist and cons don’t even engage with their potential customers, I believe that artist shouldn’t be this way, engaging with people and talking to them, getting to know them is an effective way to make them connect with you and care about your products. They will then want to buy your art because now they’ve gotten to know you and feel more motivated to support you. Another way I have found that allows me to connect with fans and consumers is podcasting, the first one I made was called The Dark Dimension Podcast, Its a Horror/sci-fi podcast in which we talk about horror, sci-fi movies and novels, we also give out artist and writer advice on it to fellow artist and writers who might be listening, I would advise anyone who is starting a business to consider making a podcast, it’s a great way to connect with potential customers and also a great way to plug your products and business. The journey here has not been easy, and I have definitely had to overcome a lot of obstacles such as finding an audience, learning drawing techniques such as perspective and lighting, but these challenges were overcome with persistence, consistency and constantly practicing on a daily basis. The main lesson I have learned along the way is to never give up, to keep going no matter how difficult it may get. What I want the world to know about me is that I aim to make content for the fans, whether it’s through art, animation, podcasting or any other creative venture I set to engage in. I love making art that makes people feel good about their fandom, to be proud of what they love. ArtofLunatik.com is my official site where you can find links to other platforms I am on such as youtube and IG.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend was visiting the area, I would most likely take them to a few spots in Hollywood such as Roros on Sunset Blvd which is a food spot that specializes in mediterranean food, they serve amazing shawarmas there. I would also take them to visit music record stores such as Amoeba Records in Hollywood, any audiophile and music fan will love it there, they have endless aisles of vinyl records for those music heads that prefer that old-school vibe. If they are fried chicken connoisseurs, then I would take them to Roscoes in Long beach or the one in Hollywood, it’s a must if you are visiting L.A for the first time. For the more adventurous thrill seeker types, I would definitely have to take them to some of the theme parks here such as Six Flags, Knotts, Disney or Universal, Universal Studios is my favorite one though since I am a total movie nerd. Speaking of films, if they are movie nerds like me, then I would have to take them to visit several movie locations located throughout the SoCal and L.A area such as the E.T House in Tujunga, the “Halloween” film locations in Pasadena, the nightmare on elm st house off sunset blvd, and many other locations scattered throughout the area. One other place to eat at that is a must in L.A is the Ports O’ Call Village located in San Pedro, by the docks of L.A. They serve some amazing seafood there and the drinks aren’t bad either!! if you are into micheladas and mexican style alcoholic beverages, it’s one of the most popular food locations in L.A.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to shoutout a Eric Moreno, a collaborator of mine that encouraged me to dip my toes into the podcasting game, but who also believed in me enough to hire me as an artist for his first official book “Wrath of the Undead” In which I did the all the interior and promotional art for.
