We had the good fortune of connecting with Lara Clear and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lara, let’s start by talking about what inspires you?
I am inspired by my Mother as she always works so hard. She is a rock for me and everyone in her life and I would love to be that person for my family and friends. I always try to work very hard and I know that I got that work ethic from my Mother. I am also inspired by nature. I live in the mountains and just going outdoors and on hikes, inspires me tremendously. I get so many bright ideas and motivation whilst on a hike in the Santa Monica Mountains!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am tremendously excited right now about a few projects that are in early stages of production. During lockdown I have been working on many creative endeavours. I have started writing and creating a comedic narrative podcast, I am in pre production for a short indie film that will be shot in Lone Pine in May and I am creating a dramatic/ supernatural series based in the English Surrey Downs. I also created and self published my first children’s book series this year, which are available on Amazon. My journey in the USA has been one that has been split between both NYC and LA. In the years that I have been here I have had a very varied career. I have worked on Stage, commercials, TV, film and Voice Over. I have worked behind the camera and in front of the camera and now I have also started dipping my feet in the childrens book world too. I think it has been super important for me to create my own work and be able to express myself through different art forms. It keeps you alive and motivated. Every time I stick with it and fully complete and execute what started as a spark of an idea, I get a major rush and sense of accomplishment. I think it is very important to create your own luck and work and in that way you can make a name for yourself. I have had many challenges along the way both personally and professionally. Just to get the working papers for the USA , that alone was a major challenge. That I was gratefully able to overcome. I have learned that you can only rely on yourself. Be open to people and trust people but don’t get walked all over. Be alert, open and genuine and you will attract the same in return.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I do hope that when travel is open and easy again that my best friend from London will come to visit me. When she does I will have so much planned for that week. LA and the surrounding area is full of amazing towns and experiences. We really have it all here! If hanging in LA for the week I would take her on MANY hikes , as I love hiking. My favourite hikes are in Malibu. They aren’t for the faint of heart but the views are astonishing. I would take her to my favourite Sushi spot in west Hollywood, my favourite Italian Porto Via in Pallisades Village. Grab a shrimp sandwich from Malibu Seafood. Have some tacos and Spicy Margs at Gracias Madre. Go shopping in the Beverly Center and the Topanga Westfield. We could go to the dog park on San Vincente with my two pups. Dinner would be at Pace, which has very European vibes and makes me feel very much at home. I would also take her on some day trips. I love Ojai and always find some great books in the thrift stores. Palm Springs for some Vitamin D and warm balmy desert nights. If it was winter I would definitely take her to Mammoth to ski and if its in the summer and I had a spare few days I would take her to my favourite get away – North Lake Tahoe. The lake is stunning and absolutely so peaceful and like stepping in to a painting.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate my recognition to my acting coach in NYC , Allen! He has helped me both personally and professional for many years, ever since I moved to the states from London, UK. He really has taught me all that I know with acting and he has been a huge support in my life.
