Meet Marinés Soria | Creative Producer and Director

We had the good fortune of connecting with Marinés Soria and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Marinés, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Risk has always been part of how I live and create. It’s what pushes me into new territories, whether stylistic, conceptual, or collaborative. In my most recent work “Quizás, Perhaps”, a bossa nova video I directed and produced, I took a chance by blending genres and betting on a niche idea. The result was 33k views and a strong response from the public. I believe risk involves not just personal courage but a commitment to creating space for new forms, particularly within Latin American art, where our hybrid nature is fertile ground for cultural innovation.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’ve been an actor and producer for over 12 years. In recent years, my artistic focus has centered on exploring the intersection between live performance and cinema, particularly through experiments with sensorial and sonic experiences. This exploration has led me to create theatrical audiovisual pieces, theater and film experiences, and seminars introducing soundscapes.
“Quizás, Perhaps” emerged from the idea of crafting an audiovisual piece that feels like an intimate performance. I met Ayna, world champion whistler and Rubina, soprano jazz singer, two incredibly talented artists who share my passion for performance and Latin jazz. Together, we created a music video for YouTube platform, a bossa nova rendition of Osvaldo Farrés’ classic bolero Quizás, Quizás, Quizás, integrating a delicate whistling performance.
Bossa nova, with its soft rhythms and emotional depth, evokes tender memories of my childhood. The song we chose symbolically reflects life in New York, a rollercoaster of unknowns, a city that moves between chaos and joy, love, and the search for belonging.
As a creative producer, I think of production as both a product and an experience. This piece can be enjoyed as a sonic journey, whether through headphones, allowing yourself to be carried by the mermaid-like sweetness of the vocals and whistling, or as a live portrait at your living room while you share some good time with friends and family.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I live in the city of my dreams—its people, its architecture, and the rhythm of daily life constantly inspire me. It was through long walks and moments of deep reflection and emotional connection that I was driven to create.
So, let’s go together and start the morning with a boost of energy at Little Canal Coffee. From there, we’ll walk a couple of blacks up in Lower East Side and stop by the International Center of Photography. We’ll take out our cameras and capture the liveliness of Chelsea, SoHo, and, of course, the Lower East Side. Later, let’s enjoy a book while lying on the grass in Central Park. And when night falls, we’ll end the day at All Blues, a vinyl record bar, celebrating life through music.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Grateful to Rubina and Ayna, whose trust and shared vision inspired us to reimagine Quizás, Quizás, Quizás through the lens of bossa nova. Special thanks to Loko Perez for the guitar arrangements, Julio Vaquero for sound engineering, Milena Cataño for assistant direction, and Karla Prieto for production assistance.
